A piece of metal to cover the work table top helps. Lead won’t stick to it. I use a cheap galvanized garage floor oil drip tray. Someone else recently said that they use a stainless steel backsplash. Don’t worry about lead fumes. The lead...

Tractor Supply sells a card of assorted small batteries for $4.99 including 2032s if I’m not mistaken. The quantity is generous. Not sure I would use them for important weapons sights but they’re a cheap source for my digital calipers that eat...

I don’t think it mattered where you were. We’re 25 miles from downtown Houston and didn’t have usable cell signal for at least four days. Comcast TV and Internet was down for about 2-1/2 days total but part of that time we didn’t have electricity...

I don’t blame “evil sellers” on EBay when buyers set the prices. All sellers do is offer merchandise. I haven’t needed anything for reloading for some time but have tried to buy a nice old Stanley or Record wood plane. The pricing has gone the...

All of the pewter and solder I’ve found was at garage and estate sales. One of the $1.00 rolls of solder was a $110.00 roll (at the time) of Brownell’s gunsmith solder. Never have found any at resale shops yet.

I have a nice inventory of pewter, some straight tin, monotype, Linotype, pure lead and COWW. This happened many years ago. I’m not hunting tin; just relating a story of the scrap yard guy.

No need to soak the stick on wheel weights (COWW) in anything. The tape comes off when you melt them. You said, “And if I don’t want to do that I can smelt them out side.” You don’t want to melt wheel weights inside anyway. There’s usually...

I wouldn’t on my Dillons but I have single stage presses and lube sizers. The load on a single stage is centered but on progressive presses it’s a very lopsided load.

My first powder measure was a Little Dandy and I still have it. It’s simple and consistent. I have many more measures now but none are any more consistent than the Little Dandy.

Target COAL: You’re limited by what will fit in the magazine. If it fits in the mag and fully drops in on a plunk test you’re good. Taper crimp to .471” max. I go to .469” with no problems. Best powder: Bullseye isn’t my favorite in the huge...

When I did commercial casting I used 50/50 pure lead/ Linotype and that equals the hardball alloy. It is a very hard alloy that could be cut with a little more lead and still work well. The best thing is that it is easily repeatable .
