That is one fine looking rifle. I hope it shoots for you as good as it look! I did the 45-120 thing 25 or more years ago. It was in a 12-13 lb. rifle so the recoil didn't put me off it....and back then I might have been a little masochistic...

The one I use most often is Unique but that doesn't make the best. I'm more familiar with it than any other save IMR-3031, experiences being about equal. I try to let the firearm tell me what it likes best.

To me, powder from the mid-90's IS new!!! I still have a few partial cans from the 70's which are still good and when called for I use them. My half keg of IMR-4831 is from the early to mid-80's and I just loaded and fired some 7 X 64 Brenneke's...

I have a couple Schuetzen rifles that have very light hammer springs and I shoot large pistol in them all the time, behind smokeless. They probably don't generate any more pressure than BP so I've never had the first problem. Evidently you shot...

Two in the same deal. A Haenel/Raasch sporter on the '88 rifle in 9 X 57. Geez...what a sweety and, a Wilhelm Brenneke in his 7 X 64 Brenneke. Another sweety even if it does have a 28 inch barrel. It's so well balanced you don't notice all that...

I have hunted in my re-enacting clothes, mostly squirrels and my eastern longhunter gear. In the past, when I was re-enacting the fur trade era I did hunt in some buckskin clothing. These days I don't hunt a lot but when I do it's pretty much as...

I shoot a LOT of X57 cartridges and couple Mannlicher/Schoenauer cartridges made from -06 and just about an equal number of European cartridges I make from 30-30 brass. I don't find it an inconvenience or a challenge to keep them separate. I keep...

Around here it's 30-06 that's as common as dirt...and cheaper...as in free. I was just given something over 1000 rounds of -06 brass and I don't own an -06..nor am I likely to. Consequently most of my X57 cases are made from -06. I still do it...
