I wonder if you could paper patch those bullets? You would protect the bullet from the barrel and the barrel from the lead. I have been doing it for Muzzleloaders for over a decade.

There is no such thing as over kill on elk. Anyone that thinks so is not a hunter.

I am not going by guess and by golly. Your giving out the 50 50 mix as being soft and it is not. That will ruin someones hunt. It might not be yours but someone will try the same thing you are doing and loose an animal or worse wound an animal and...

Jon, I am really trying to explain something to you for your own good and you don't seem to grasp it. Yes you poured up some balls with your 50 50 mix. Yes I fully believe that you can scratch it with your thumb nail. I can scratch 18 BHN hard...

Not that then. I haven't spent any time on the factory barrels on my rifles. Some didn't have them when I got them. Just remember with your mixed lead they will get harder. And that means harder to load a second shot in the field when you need it.

Were you using your 50 50 mix of soft lead and lead shot? When your using hard lead balls you can't really blame the rifle. Remember Jon I told you that the lead will age harden.

Ha Ha, I am no master but I have put a lot of elk to the ground. I like Jon, that is why I hard time him a bit. Having confidence in a rifle and a load goes a long way to achieving success but how does a normal hunters attain confidence? I...

All I am saying is if your going to bust someone chops for not hunting enough then you need to give some statistics on your experience. I have only seen you post one elk picture. If you have enough experience that you insist that others catch up to...

You seem to not know how to reply when asked how many elk you have killed. So your experience is 1 elk. You have killed one elk but your telling guys they need to hunt more. That is funny Jon.

I won third place shooter of the year shooting PRB. I have many years experience shooting them. That is why I don't hunt with them.

How many elk have you killed? You declare a load to be an elk load, but what are you basing that off of?

I am going to say that those 50-50 mix is going to be at least 14BHN hard. You will want to make sure they fit after they harden. A lot of guys don't understand it, but it can bite you. You get to huinting camp and find out that your PRB's are too...

I was standing next to my friend that shot one with a round ball. I breathed the smoke from the shot. He hit the shoulder and it punched in a couple inches into the lung. It took us way too long to recover that elk. I was on another trip and came...

Jim Shockey gold?? That doesn't defeat the purpose of the side lock? Really???? you are only HC/PC to the point of a bullet and everything else is okay?? Really??? You got a 4" group there. Which is okay I guess. If your point of aim is behind...

You can hunt any way your conscience allows you to. But I will agree that the eastern elk were killed off with PRB. But they didn't have season dates. they didn't have game rules. They didn't have PETA people looking over their shoulder. They didn't...

That mixture you made of lead is HARD. When it ages it will get harder. If you work a load when they are fresh that same load might not go down the barrel after sitting for a while. How many elk have you killed? How many have you killed with a...

I seem to remember that the parts in the lock and trigger are hardened but it is a surface harden. Once the hardness is gone the parts wear fast.

I have never had it hook on anything. It is based off the finger hook on the two trigger models. If a person has trouble with a hawken you will probably have trouble with this one.

That is just mild steel. I brazed it and filled holes with two part epoxy. Then I painted it.

I am not real wild about the single trigger. I did alter mine to help a little.
