With modern lubes the shape of the lube grooves won't matter. Suggest a 20-1 alloy with the square groove mould. If they drop .454 or larger size .454 or as cast. With the round groove mould I suggest a 96/3/3 alloy (COWW + 2% tin will do)...

6.8 gr Unique isn't +P, it's top end SAAMI MAP. 7.2 gr is +P. Never used Longshot so I have to defer to others.

NOE has a good selection. Their 323471 copy of the discontinued Lyman is my favorite 8x57 bullet.

Both......it's why a milsurp 8x57 with excellent bore can be extremely accurate with quality jacket bullets and cast at higher than the RPM Threshold with the right design cast bullet.

Agree. Very nice. I love .45 N-frames. I like Pachmayr Grippers on square butt N-frames. Before you modify the frame on such a nice gun I think you should try 'em. Enjoy your revolver! May you shoot it well, and for many years. Uncle R.

OP doesn't state what the throats measure(?). Bullet at .358 and if throat is not .358+ then the Hi-tech is probably getting scraped off. I suggest sizing at .356 for that .3555 barrel. N320 shouldn't be the cause of the leading.

The Mauser 7.9x57 started the deeper grooves with a .314 bore a .323 groove. That was +/- of corse but the groove depth was inteded to be .005 to .006. The concpt was the deeper grooves would give longer barrel life given the corrosive nature of...

Have 4 Rapine moulds. They are excellent. Hated to see Rapine close up shop. Many correct moulds for old obsolete cartridges at a reasonable price.

You won't need GCs with a proper alloy for TD level loads. The Meister bullets are certainly hard enough alloy wise. The lube may or may not work well. Keep the loads with 350 - 405 gr bullets in the 45-55 to 45-70 velocity range (1050 - 1350...

This is correct. Additionally the powder used is part of it. come will leave more deposit/residue in the barrel. A large part of which is carbon. The combination of lube residue and powder residue is causing the problem. What powder and...

with 390 to 500 gr cast bullets H4895 in my four 45-70 rifles is as accurate as anything else including RL7 and 3031. IMR4895 doesn't do quite as well. With lighter weight cast bullets I, like the OP, use Unique and Bullseye.

H4895 is an extruded powder with small short kernels. Over the years I've used it in RCBS, Lyman, Pacific and Lee powder throwers with excellent uniformity of charges. H4895 is also an "Extreme " powder and is less sensitive to temperature...
