I always try to collect a wide variety of manuals, be they powder, bullet, or anyone in between. It is true that older books are, and should be suspect of load data as powder has been changing over the decades. But, the older manuals are handy to...

Townsend Whelen (March 6, 1877 – December 23, 1961), called "Townie" by his friends, was an American hunter, soldier, writer, outdoorsman and rifleman. Whelen was a colonel in the United States Army, and a prolific writer on guns. ...

It is spelled Whelen, not Whalen. Just saying. I have had two Remington 700 Classic rifles in this chambering. One was just so much fun I got a second when it came up for sale. I had great loads made up for both Jacket and cast for elk hunting. ...

Go with the Lyman #50. Unless your using very specific jacketed rounds it should cover 99% of your needs IMHO.

Hey Fly, I don't know from tec but doing what it takes is easy. I used my numbered drills on the nipples - it is the first thing to do. But when the new nipples mic less the 0.040" that is the limit of standard drills. I may get some cheap China...

I ended up taking 0.015" off the top of the Ampco nipple. Works great now for the CCI #11 cap. The #11 Remington caps are a good fit but not as tight as the CCI are after the nipple was shortened. I am hunting with the CCI.

I like to use my bandsaw too. However, any coarse tooth wood saw, hand or electric will do it. A table saw is my last option but works. Cut half way and turn over and cut the rest. Once you do some, it is not hard.

BTW - if you lube both sides of the barrel and try to pull the ball, drive it in a little before trying to pull it out.

You are on the right track. Clean above it with water or what ever you use. Get a generous amount of patch oil on the bore and down around the ball. Use the puller. Should work. If not. ..... Does the Springfield have a threaded breach you can...

Hello, This is a hunting rifle, so I am using Pure Lead Maxi-balls and no wiping between shots. Wiping surly would be a change for the better on follow up shots, but if ever I need a second shot, I want to know what to expect. The 32-1 twist...

There was a high end gun shop in the seventies I would frequent that had a lot of these. Japan or Italian made. At the time I thought they were nice but 38 Special? Not good for much and the rifles were pricey. Now, I wish I would have had the...

You may have a point. I liked the fit, it was just a little looser than in the old barrel and starting in this new barrel is great. Really, the fit seemed correct, just loose enough to fit in the muzzle up to the top band with no wiggle and then...

I thought of that and then kinda dismissed it. Now that you mention it, maybe that is something I can try. I think it may only take removing a small amount to make a difference.

It is interesting, the 100y groups I am getting with this Lyman Great Plains Hunter replacement barrel are not as good so far as I would have expected. My old barrel was the RB 1 in 60 twist, and it shot the TC maxi bullet well. 100Y accuracy was 2...

Not right or wrong but I am glad you like the Rowell for casting. I have next to 100% match bullets using RCBS and Lyman ladles. My Two Rowells never get used and I sold the 6LB used for batching ingots. I have been casting since 1970 and have...

Maybe- sometimes. It depends on what it is intended to be used for. Some sheet lead has a few percent Sb to keep it from drooping if used in that application. Google the suppliers and look at all the alloys available. You will see that often we...

Boy - that sure sounds like the delta for the sight being a vernier scale; ten thousandths movement being about moa. That is moving just like it should for that kind of rifle and chambering.

Bent Ramrod - that is a good post. My lathe is an old Southbend 9 and somewhat small for these kinds of projects. The one casting I have done, I really did not do alone. It was a group effort. I took it to a friends who has a much larger lathe and...

I'm sure Slim Pickens would be proud. Nice looking hammer. I'm still deciding on what I'm going to stuff in my 12ga. brass cases. I keep vasillating between a nice round ball or a custom slug.
