For some reason I think a wide, tooled leather sling looks right at home on a levergun.

Well, OP, did you scratch that itch? I had a pistol cartridge 1894 (45 Colt) for years but never had any issues that I can recall. Problem is I don't recall ever shooting it but I'm pretty sure I did. I think the Rossi R92 is a better option if you...

I suspect the tang is D&T'd for tang sights if you're open to that option. If you don't need peeps the Marble sight is hard to beat.

YES! If your goal is long range precision there's no substitute for putting rounds downrange. Lots of rounds.

I generally take things a bit slower than Steve does with his video but he's done this job dozens, maybe hundreds of times. I'm living proof that no aspect of gun repair can ever be "idiot proof" but as I recall this video gets about as close as we...

May be on to something there. I've noticed stainless M77 bores can be a bit rough, one in particular is most accurate after several rounds. I generally take a gun with a dry, fouled bore hunting. Another thing I've noticed is that CLP left in a bore...

375 Winchester brass is available from time to time, I hope you'll be able to find some. My 375 hunting load of Rx7 under a 375449 GC clone is max and I wouldn't recommend it in 38-55 brass without further research on your part. I've seen heated...

I've gotten more and paid less so it would depend on the gun. Y'all keep that frozen stuff up there! My fellow Texicans can't figure out how to drive on it.

No, it's part of my reference library. I'll probably go thru this gun and tweak it a bit someday or buy another R92.

Hadn't thought about smaller groups, this one shoots very well. Almost as good as my early guide gun. Could be interesting. I've got a pretty good 'smith but I like the way the one piece trigger feels and I don't mind doing the easy jobs myself....

Yes, I found it useful and well made. Turns out my R92 has had all or most of the described work already done. The video was useful in figuring out how to install the bolt-mounted peep sight IIRC.

I lucked into a similar rifle a few years back and like reivertom I wouldn't have hesitated to buy the one in the OP. The 99 isn't very popular around here but the 99 is a great rifle. The 300 Savage is an interesting cartridge as it did indeed...

Looking forward to seeing your new rifle, there's something special about the 1873. Even though I mostly collect the original Winchesters the Miroku and Uberti versions always catch my eye.

Depends on the bolt gun. Push feed rifles like most of the later Winchesters don't do well with wide meplat boolits while the Ruger M77, "pre-64" Winchesters and other rifles using a controlled feed action don't seem to mind as much.

My deer this season was a high lung hit, not much of a blood trail and it was a tough tracking job in the dark, thick & sticky S. TX brush. Dead in less than 50 yds but most blood drops smaller than a dried pea. It happens, your boolit and alloy...

Seems to have been a bit of an "off" year, can only recall purchasing one levergun in 2017. Quick records check revealed a few more. The one I recall best is an 1894 chambered in 38-55 built in 95. Yes, 1895. :bigsmyl2:
