i talked it all over with jim chambers last night. the game plan is to first drill and tap for a 5/16x32 WL liner and see how she goes. if need be, i'll open that up to 3/8x32 and file down any of the liner past the flat. at this point, i'll take...

no barrel threads were removed. the vent liner is in solid. however, i have been thinking of drilling out the barrel for a 3/8" chambers white lightning vent. i think there's enuf room on the flat.

it's a vent (or 'touch hole') liner. there's a .062" hole in that screw plug and the heat, not fire, of the pan flash ignites the bp in the barrel's chamber.

yes, it was a WL knockoff and filed flush with the barrel.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. It appears half of the threads were removed, leaving little for that vent to hang on to.

My revolver and rifle prefer different loads. You can shoot the same load in both, but working up what works best for each gun is the best route.

That's a gawdawful countersink he cut for the vent liner. You get what you pay for! The general opinion of most other builders is, Jackie can take $700 worth of parts, and make you a fine $300 gun.

so i have this .62 smoothbore that i had commissioned jackie brown (gun maker of non-renown) to build for me in the fall of 2016 that arrived at me in the winter of 2017. a simple farmer's gun, nothing at all fancy. i received it in-the-white, and...

We've got a lot of griz and black bear activity here, too. Friend wants me to go shoot one out of his apple trees. Problem is, they only come at night, and I don't need the hassle of accidentally killing a griz.

If the finish is completely cured, you will leave no steel wool particles in the finish. I finished a lot of very expensive exhibition grade stocks with steel wool where such a blemish would be disaster. Never a problem.

I use some Bullplate Lube on the mold. Careful application with a Q tip. Keep it out of the cavity. I think synthetic chainsaw 2 cycle oil is the same thing.

i'm not at all concerned about the stock trigger - it's all about what can be done to make a 5-7# trigger lots better. there are fixit tricks and kits for bolt actions rugers and savages, and i've own both brands and it was easy to get under 3# for...

no matter how smooth a trigger, 5# is waaay too much for me. 3# and crisp is the target, a tad lighter might be better. until the henry s/s trigger issue is resolved, and it IS an issue for me and should be for pretty much all shooters, that...

If you didn't start out with well seasoned wood to make a stock, you may as well figure on starting over. An uncured stock will warp, twist, and do all kinds of nasty things if you expect the rifle to group. If you used Truoil too heavily, it...

had the chargemaster when i was doing smokeless, is it good for bp? IMO, the gempro 250 is still the Best .02 grain scale, but yep it's delicate and can be finicky, but when it works it's super fast and accurate. make sure it's on a separate...
