I made this scope base from an alloy bicycle crank arm. It's keyed, glued and screwed onto the charger bridge and glued and screwed onto the receiver ring. You can see the receiver ring part has been turned to suit the radius of the ring. That...

I've never found any COWWs that measured 18 BHN either unless they were WQ'd(?). Also can you explain to me what you perceive as "skidding" on either bullet? Also, your alloy of straight COWW has little tin if any in it. What you see as...

Not a military rifle but a sporter factory built on one. A Lithgow actioned 25-303 with a SMLE profile long skinny barrel. At 200yds it shot sub MOA. Scary accurate. With scope of course but the point is, the action can do, it even with a long...

5 gr is a good start load under the 200 gr RF bullet. Should run 800+ fps out of your Ruger. Work up to 6.2 gr. For better Cowboy SASS loads you might consider using the 45 Schofield case or even better; the 45 Cowboy American case. Both are...

Ok, if the errent readings also occurred outside I'd suspect something is wrong with the crono and would send it to maker for repair or replacement.

"An interesting note on the Argie Ammo. Had a warning in Spanish not to shoot in 91's." That was because the M1909's sights were regulated to the new lighter weight spritzer bullet at higher velocity. The M91's sights are regulated to the...

Again, when you set it up how far from the muzzle is the start screen? Your errant readings in 1st post sound like muzzle blast interference.

Single shot shotguns are the best bet. Other action types often prevent the gauge being placed over the chamber in the correct place.

Tom and Varsity are indeed correct. The HB is referred to as a "dish" in the ordnance drawings/description and is there to regulate the weight while keeping the external dimensions of the bullet constant. It never was intended to expand as was the...

Yes, WQing the bullets does allow them to withstand acceleration better. However, since the loads I use allow excellent hunting accuracy for the first 5 - 8 shots out of a clean barrel are mostly used for deer and elk I prefer the better (mostly...

Way to fast for that PB cast bullet. Slow them down to 1200 +/- fps and they shoul do well. If you want faster than like 2000 fps then a GC'd bullet is best to use.

Definately make #2 alloy with the linotype. It will do very well in your cartridges. Also if the moulds you have were cut for #2 or WWs then they are cast9way over size with the lino. I suspect oversize bullets is why they are hard to size.

brewer12345 That 11" twist just may give you more of an edge than you think, especially if you're considering a 311299/314299 cast bullet. You should get to 2200 fps with suitable hunting accuracy. Have to see where the remaining velocity hits...

vzerone Then there should be nothing stopping you from grabbing a 10" twist 30 caliber rifle, conducting accuracy tests using 10 shot groups at 100, 200 and 300 yards with a cast bullet at 3000 fps to prove me wrong, is there? Oh, and try not...

It definitely would be an improvement, especially at normal cast bullet velocities out of a 10" twist barrel. The conundrum is that the OP wants an effective range of 300 yards. That requires velocity. The softer nose does not hold up under the...

Here's the conundrum; for 2400+ fps with cast bullets from a 10" twist '06 requires a very hard alloy......too hard in my estimation for clean killing at 1400 fps at 300 yards. A softer more malleable alloy is needed for the bullet to hold...
