Just buy him good used stuff from the 1960s to the 1980s. Few handloaders are very serious. They use the stuff once or twice and give up. Most people are not technically inclined and they are lazy so look around and you can get good used stuff...

The 45-70 was designed as a single shot round capable of shooting a long round nose 500 grain bullet. The cartridges for repeaters are not true 45-70 ammo unless you have a bolt gun with a long magazine.

A friend of mine had one with a longer shoulder and shorter neck. His first shot pierced the primer. The escaping gas blew the hammer back and the action opened. The primer pocket was blown and the primer was stuck on the end of the firing pin. The...

If you have the patience an automatic search can be set up on ebay for 7.5 Mas dies. About 2 or 3 times a year a set will show up for about $25.

Standard drills work fine if your machine has little slack in the quill. Brass is no more grabby than aluminum. Even steel will grab if you have Z Axis slack in the quill. Yes you can monkey with the drill. But if you have the right touch you don't...

You might check the articles on cast bullet alloy strength and pressure at the Los Angeles Silhouette Club site. If your pressure is too high for a specific alloy it may strip in the rifling. For rifling twist issues you need to understand that...

RCBS dies had an alpha date code that began with the letter A in 1950. The code seemed to have been abandoned in the late 1960s. I have found older dies with the alpha code for 1966 and the numerical 66 too.

I think you can neck size with a .308 FL die set shallow. The poster "motor" has a scan of the Lee internal engineering sketch. The Lee drawing has significant errors on it compared to the CIP standards drawing. You can find his posts at the...

Your claim is not accurate. You may modify one of the dies by some crude method but it is not likely to work. That is based on 10000 hours of running an engine lathe followed by an engineering degree and 40 years of manufacturing engineering in...

Yes the Lee dies size the 7.5 too much. They squeeze the diameter of the case down about .006 smaller than necessary on the body diameter. The result is the cases stretch way too fast. You can check with a guy with thr handle of motor both here and...

No the cost delta is only $15. There is no proof it is even necessary. I like the Lee factory crimp dies for rifle ammo but I only use them for autoloaders.

The Hornady LnL will lie to you if you expect Saami numbers. The edges of the bushing bores have a small chamfer that causes the measurement to be too small. However the gage is excellent when comparing one round to another. Make up a max shoulder...

I think your Lee pusher is bad if your ram still accepts standard shell holders. Have a 1971 Rock Checker just like yours except mine has a lot more wear. It works fine with the Lee push rods.

Your overall length needs to function in your gun. Software will not substitute for working up a load that functions through the magazine.

The collet is just held in place by friction from a cheap wire ring. Just pull it out. You cannot rework the fingers with a file. There is a small lip that can only be machined before the collet is split.

Your powder is too slow and the charge is way too heavy. Try Imr 4227 or 4198. Use only enough to go 1100 fps like a .22 LR. Stock breaking loads are useless since they are no fun.
