If you can find one the Lyman mold guide for their Model 61 pot fits the SAECO, know because I had a 24 at one time.

I don't powder coat, size and lube the old way. Have used the Lyman 452460 and now use the Lee 452-200 SWC and both shot well in several SA 1911's. Some 1911's don't like to feed the SWC design but the only way to know is to try them, but have not...

Given it provenance could this have been something used by Army troops stationed in the Southwest during the Indian Wars. Construction looks too good to be something home made. Gang molds were made by Frankfort arsenal for use by units to cast...

Have a 4" HB for K frame Smith, finish is good and bore is shiny, this the old style for the pinned barrel models. Finish is a matte finish like on the M28 and the front sight profile is high, like the M15, not low like the M10. Also have a...

Have a lot of range lead and need to harden it for rifles. Foundry type works well for this as it is high in both Sn and SB. Mixed 3/1 RL/FT makes a suitable alloy for my rifles and 7/1 for handguns. The FT I bought from Roto-Metals was in small...

If I understand it correctly the bullets freshly cast will age harden and you need to wait a few days before you get the true hardness.

Have shot both and don't think you will go wrong with either one. My personal preference is for the S&W and if I were to get another 38 it would be a Model 14 or 15 simply because I prefer adjustable sights that allow me to adjust point of aim to...

Burnt Fingers is correct. While it works now the shock buffer is a band-aid, you need to figure out what the real problem is. Even though a mix master of parts it should still function correctly assuming the parts are in spec.

Had an Erfurt 1918 that had been sporterized by Bubba that I bought for the action. Never did use it and ended up gaving it to a friend. They are a smaller ring action but are not the true small ring Mausers. Mine had a bent bolt handle that was...

On an A3 barrel the spline cut for the front sight will have the slot for the sight retaining pin in the center of the cut. Might help to post a pic of what you have to give us a better ides of what you need for the rebuild. FWIW have seldom seen...

The Ruger bases for the #3/1V I believe are still made. I used them on my #3 with Ruger extension rings to get the scope where I wanted it.

The Ruger bases for the #3/1V are still made and used sets show up on E-bay. I had the same scope issue with my #3 but solved it with a set of Ruger extension rings. Mine was already set up with a #1 style butt stock and slimmed forend when I got...

When I lived in WI our range had sand berms and were easy to mine. A wood frame with 1/4 in hardware cloth, a small shovel, and a lot of 5 gal pails and you were in business. Seemed like most lead was 6-8 inches deep and, since the berms had been...

I drink a LOT of coffee and use the plastic cans for storage, cast in mostly muffin tins and a few old SAECO ingot molds. A can will hold about 30# and I place a piece of paper with the alloy info inside the can and also mark the lid with the same...

The center pic in post #21 shows some odd marks on the receiver ring. Front looks like someone used a pipe wrench on it. Is the mark on the rear receiver ring just ding in the metal or is it a crack. Before investing a lot of $ have it checked by...

kevin c makes a good point about volume, let me add that when you start casting your own there is a good chance you will be shooting more than you are now. Take that into consideration when planning your purchases. If your alloy is usable as is...

My buddy has the Henry and found the same feeding issue with SWC/Kieth type bullets. I cast his bullets and he reports excellent results with the LEE 452-255 RF sized .452 and lubed with either White Label XLOX 2500 or the old 50/50 NRA formula.

Check the top of the mold and bottom of the sprue plate for any build up of lead. A small build up will raise the plate enough for hot alloy with a good percentage of tin to flow into the gap.

I also use plastic pill bottles, a small piece of stick on label on the lid with size and top punch data makes it easy to find what I am looking for. The bottles I have are tall enough for both the die and top punch.
