    You could bend a bar and listen for the tin "cry". Not sure if a thick bar would make the noise, but it's worth a try. If you melt a stick down into ingots or buttons, they should have a gold color from the tin.

    I think I figured out the problem: he must see the batteries as his only available source of lead. Most scrap yards do not sell lead to the public (at least here in CA - maybe they do in MO). So, selling the batteries means losing a source. ...

    Mary, I have made it with graham cracker crust, and it's even mo better. I guess I left out that you need to cook the pie shell and the pudding first, lol.
