John Van Gelder replied to a thread 9mm SWC in Cast Boolits
Bashby Loading cast bullets in the 9mm can be a bit daunting, I am sure you have tried different seating depths, some SWCs need to be seated flush with the top of the top driving band to reliably function in some semi autos. The other end of the...

John Van Gelder replied to a thread 9mm SWC in Cast Boolits
If I come back about half way on the front band then they function in any 9mm I have. This has been an exercise in what if, this is a very old single cavity mold, My real objective was to see if this bullet shape was any more efficient on game than...

John Van Gelder started a thread 9mm SWC in Cast Boolits
I found some other posts on this bullet, the Lyman 358345. I bought this mold about 30 years ago, I used it mostly for small game loads in the .38spl. This bullet appears in the Lyman Third Edition cast bullet manual as recommended for the 9mm. I...

Texas by God Over time there have been a number of semi autos chambered in .38 spl. This has been a "what if" thing for me for many years, back when I started shooting the .45ACP in 1964, the barrels and other parts to build a 1911 .38spl were...

I have had a number of 28s over time and got good results with 170 gr. bullets. I just sold a 4" 28 last summer, I still have a 4" 19 and a 6" 28. Here is a picture of a bear I killed with the 4" 28 . The load was 7 gr. of Unique in a .357 case...

Something I have wanted to try is converting a 1911 to .38 spl. You have to use full wadcutters seated flush with the case mouth and do some re-springing, and a .38 spl barrel, everything else can stay the same..I think..???

soflarick Right on the mark.. I have nothing against Glocks, but feel that there are better choices for less money. The Glock has a pretty loose chamber and that is were they get their reliability, so right off if you are going to reload and use...

bullet maker 57 There are these folks out there that have no comprehension of the difference between black and smokeless powder. I grew up in the Finger Lakes region of NY, in the little town closest to our farm there was a little gun shop that...

The only thing that is certain is that time passes, we get older and along with that comes arthritis, shooting 300-350 gr, bullets in my .44 and .45s is just not as much fun as it was. In reality anything one needs a hand gun for can be...

shtur The bear target on a sled is not a good representation, a big bear can hit 30 mph in about three bounds, that sled target just gives one the idea that things can happen pretty quickly, and in reality faster than in the video. The 10mm...

I had a Blackhawk 4 5/8 .357 bought it back in the days before transfer bars and after the original flat tops. I had a load using the Keith bullet made of really soft alloy and 4.5 grains of 700X in .38 cases that load was really effective on...

I have a very old mold that produces a 77 gr. wadcutter, I have probably taken more small game with that bullet in .38spl. cases in my various .357 magnum guns than I ever did with a .22lr. Back when I was a State Trooper in Alaska, we were issued...

Te Lee 200 gr. "heeled" bullet is a good choice, I recovered s number of those I shot into a wet sand bank at about 300 yards, the bullet retained enough velocity that there was some appreciable deformation even at that range. The recovered bullets...

If you have the opportunity to purchase an Old Army, do so. It is probably the best percussion revolver of all time, not representative of classic black powder revolvers, but a good useful tool.

I have carried, shot, hunted various game animals with the .357 for many years, my first .357 was a brand new Mod 28 back in 1965. I have taken everything from squirrels to moose. Using light .38 spl., loads you can harvest small game with less...

Dave Is that Vaquero one of the old heavy frame guns? If it is you can put some pretty substantial loads through it.
