Been having key holes with the 150gr Lyman 287405 bullet. Even at .293 diameter in a .288 bore. Thinkng maybe the bullet is to short. Looking to get a 287308 Lyman and see how it does.

Congratulations on your fist cast boolits, and may I say that as castboolit cartridges go, you picked the absolute Cadillac. 358WCF is my favorite caliber. Now, shiny is not always a good thing. Shiny is as shiny does, and it doesn't do jack....

Also, damage to the nose is often closer to the centerline of rotation than damage to the base, and thus centrifugal force cannot have as dramatic an effect on it. I once had the crazy notion of breaking my addiction to handloaded ammunition. I...

One option is to buy a Savage Axis and one of the Shaw barrel kits on MidwayUSA. Not a bad action surprisingly. I would not build a 358 on a SR Mauser. There's a reason they're giving them away on GB. That said, LR mausers can be had for low...

24 grains of 2400 is one of those magic combos that is easy to remember and works stupidly well. Another one is for the 30-30 Winchester: 30 grains of 3031. When I was first reloading when I was a kid, I really thought that "3031" was so called...

It's the 358 Malcolm. Fun cartridge. I made it specifically for shooting paper patch boolits and had a lot of fun with it summer 2011. It's a 35/303 improved with a tight neck, and I made a Lee loader to reload it. The brass should last forever...

Yeah, I think I'm going to roll with Brad's RD 350 also. I just love that boolit. The GC makes it so that it will take anything the 45-70 will dish out, and it fits the 1895 Marlin like a glove. I cast them up out of 95/2.5/2.5 air cooled. Cant...

Looks like these little RB's can been a pain . Might give the Lyman 287308 a try if I can find one cheap enough. Well it is good to know I can increase the bullet dia. a little bit more, if the round will chamber by doing so.

No questioning anything you've said, except I really am bothered by your statment of using "heavy enough boolits." Sir, would you mind telling me how, with a 45-70, you shoot a boolit too light to knock over a whitetail deer? :kidding:

50 yards and closer, I take a head shot. Further than that, I take a heart/lung shot.

Almost anything would work, but you absolutely must have rigidity, and a solid attachment to the stock. It's got to support the stock and guide it as it recoils through the bags. That's a pretty violent event, and just like the bedding of the...

Here's my thought (feel free to disagree with me): With normal shooting, the object of burning the powder is to improve the shooter. However, many of you have improved your proficiency with a rifle to the point where it becomes difficult to...

I wouldn't really call it a "contraption". It's a simple aluminum plate screwed to the bottom of your stock that simply widens the footprint and turns your V bottom fishing boat into a pontoon platform that doesn't roll over so easy. If you're...

Sink that low, and I'll make sure your next rifle has a mother of pearl possum inlayed on it instead of a buck. LOL!

I have read some interesting articles discussing reaming/turning of necks outside turning of a neck leaves it as much off center as when you started, requiring a full length resize, then possible re-turning inside reaming with a lathe style...
