Just a couple of things for philosophizing and ponderation... If you pour over the black powder loading, ballistics and trajectory tables the magic bore size for the most whoopee-doo in round ball performance is somewhere between .50 and .54....

Pietta has come way up in quality over the years. But that said their .44's still have the goofy undersized chambers and thin chamber walls that discourage reaming the chambers to match the barrel. I'm surprised that someone isn't offering...

I recently came into a NEI box for a #520.510 GC mold. If you happen to have the mold and want the box for the postage then gimme a yell.

Something I've done to get extremely fine grit... Set a box fan at one end of a cleaned long and flat surface. Turn on the fan. Slowly sprinkle fine dry sand in front of the fan. Do that a few minutes and harvest the grade of grit that you...

By the way, the #445599 is loaded with homebrew BP lube in the hollow base and a thin cotton cloth patch to provide interference holding the rear band in the case mouth. That lets it seat all the way out and maximize the powder volume. The boolit...

I have the Accurate 380 grain bore rider for smokeless powerhouse loads. Which reminds me I was gonna send that mold off for hollow points. Any way, I happen to enjoy shooting paper patched and black so now I'm looking around for a suitable...

All true. Sizing after wrapping works great with the patch extending far enough forwards and the metal not being too hard. Sizing .458 molds to .457 after patching is A-OK. 250 grain .454 diameter Keith SWC's work good too. I've found that...

Anyone here paper patching seated out boolits for .45 Colt? I've tried out the bore riding #445599 and that has turned my thinking to patching.

My solution for .45 Colt D/A shooting was to alter Lyman #450229 to a wadcutter nose and then load it backwards with the hollow base forwards. That way the boolit with a long bearing length wasn't too heavy, the powder space was greatly reduced and...

Marble Falls, TX with Dad's "Old Never Miss". Almost five decades later still got the rack and the 99. Or was it with the 6mm 700BDL? :???:

Reminds me of a guy I worked with in south Texas. He and his wife had just drove home from shopping and he knocked the sack with her new bottle of scotch off of the dinner table. And instantly yelled "That darn cat!" The Cherokee might just be...

I'd like to put together a longer barrelled .458 bore to operate like my New Englander and might just use another New Englander to do it or maybe another Renegade. But a full length stock as from Pecatonica is really really tempting. A barrel to use...
