Used 7/16" marbles in a fifty smoothie. The patch leaving the "ball" without sending it sideways was the most important factor. [smilie=l: Got a .65 ball mold to try out in the flinter smoothie .69 with paper cartridges... if I don't get rifled...

Like the picture. A hollow point that pops open well and holds together acts like a drag chute.

Some time back had found a picture with dimensions showing that the original smooth sided Pritchett bullets used by the British were .550" diameter. That would have been 0.027" (or thereabouts) smaller than the .577" bores of the rifles they were...

Erik did this HP for me, the Lyman gas checked version of the .45ACP hardball. Not too long ago I snagged one of those old Ideal gas checked versions of the 454190 too. But you know, it'd seem like a sacrilege to alter such a scarce piece of...

Got a pyrodexed lefthand New Englander barrel to either rebarrel to .458 bore (and 30" barrel) or rebore to use fifty rifle molds. Reviewing this thread was a welcome refresher.

Long time ago I started looking into making a bottle neck .50 to work in a 20 but life intervened. There being lots of fifty molds floating around it seemed a possible.

If you should happen to have the means to do so, could you please report on the rifling and chambers dimensions?

Don't forget that it's not unusual for salt to be added to products as a surfactant so be sure a rinse well. Yeah, everybody ought to rinse real good anyway but hadn't seen the salt mentioned yet.

Yo St. Hogustine, I've been exchanging emails with Pecatonica River Long Rifle Supply about a full length stock replacement for a New Englander. I'm exploring the possibilities of a winter project to make a full stock longer barrel in either .458...

You might measure your chambers diameter and size the rear bands of your favorite boolit designs to slip into the chambers. Cast from soft lead you will have home grown maxis. I do this with a Lyman lubrisizer, not running the boolits all the way...

My brother experimented with a little lighter version of that same mold from NEI. He concluded that the design had a specific down falling, that being the from having the groove diameter band in front that the paper patch is intended to be...

I have one Renegade stock that you can slide a barrel forwards and back before the wedge is inserted. How much depends upon which barrel. It currently has a Green Mountain drop-in .40 bore in it for fairly short range stability key holing tests....

Nobody has shown their Renegades using the .476/.480 diameter molds. Been wondering when we'd see some. A tapered 30"-32" barrel on a slimmed down New Englander could be pretty nice. I went with .458 instead only because of the many available mold...

Got a replacement L&R to put on the .52 fast twist flinter Renegade. 'Fraid there's no way I can do it justice at a hundred without a scope but can't quite bring myself to do that (yet). Will put a TC tang peep and bead front on it and see how...

Heh, I love flintlocks, and I love cast boolits both patched and lubed, and I love alternative fiction whether it's building models or reading "what-if" novels. The combination of things I'm fond of can give me some really fun muzzleloader ideas....

To get the boolit base to fill the grooves you really need soft. But on the reproduction 1858, yes, you can over work the weak loading lever. .36 caliber not so much a problem. .41 not too bad. .44 easy to be bad. Chamfer on the chamber...
