Do not rechamber a 2nd hand .375 Winchester No.3 Ruger. It'll shoot great but the recoil is way over the top.:-P

If you find an 8x57 refurb to .308 from the mid-80's don't be surprised if it's really a .31-08, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Now that's awesome. My Armisport P-53 has 48" twist but three grooves. I wonder how long of a solid base slug it will shoot (probably longer than I would imagine:-P).

The 577030 is a blunt booger isn't it. The 575602 is as well. Do you have a copy of the older Lyman Black Powder Handbook for loads?

My brother builds holsters, cartridge carriers, knives and scabbards. I keep the learner project belt he made for me fifty years ago, precious memento. Yesterday told me he was in a rush doing holsters for a 1911 and a Desert Eagle.

What is the rifling pattern like, the width of the grooves versus the lands?

As short and squatty bodied as minies are, they don't have much inertia relative to their diameter. Plain bases might need a (relatively) high initial pressure to get the expansion to seal the bore?

I don't think that even the one turn in 48" muskets would be a fast enough twist to shoot plain bases. But the shallow three groove rifling wouldn't likely work well. Maybe the five land with tapered groove depth? I dunno. I'm asking if anyone is...

Anyone here shoot plain base .58 boolits? Having a few .58 (.575/.577) minie molds, I'd considered getting a plain base plug, perhaps adjustable length, that would be interchangeable from mold to mold and giving some plain bases a try.

You know the way that Lee round ball molds have the tangential cut off? Had one of their .35 ball molds that the cut off was actually down inside the body of the sphere. Imagine a very short round based boolit with a WFN. Any how, there was no way...

It's percussion. Alls I knows about the lock it's what Dixie sent in the kit. My brother built it for me. Early 80's.

This is a picture of some of my early polishing rounds. The head stamps are just .303 'cause they're home made.

Many years ago we'd go hunting up at the family place in northwest Texas. At night the only things to hear was a thumper well a long ways off. Or an armadillo grunt while rootin' around (volunteering to be roasted with onions and new potatoes). And...

bedbugbilly, a three and a half foot long fifty caliber barrel an inch across the flats can do you proud. Mine can dang sure put round ball on target to make center fire shooters clench their teeth during the annual rite of sighting in their scopes....

The closest things I have to chunk guns are a nifty fifty Dixie with 43" barrel and a 38" barreled .52. I'm tinkering with the idea of a small bore on a GPR but that just aint a'gonna be a chunk gun!
