It's the Old Redwoods that develop tannin and other chemicals that resist rot and insects. New growth and whitewood has almost none and rots as fast as pine. It would be a waste to put most of the currently available redwood in the ground. Cedar...

Watch out for self destruct respirators, made of rubber with a shelf life. I had an A/O fail the second time I used it even sealed in a ammo box. Norton makes silicone masks that do not degrade. If you have a lot of smoke smelting, sort out the...

If you can see what you are doing, that's one less excuse. Just sayin ... Half inch rotohammers are fine for 1/4 and 5/16 holes but really slow down 1/2 and above. I make a lot of holes. I have a nice old 1/2" Makita and didn't want to burn it up...

Thanks! Larry's pellet recommendation was spot on. The Crosman Premier Domed pellets got here today so I drove down to the mailboxes, got them and they grouped tighter and to the left of the RWSs. I even got a couple ragged holes. The flies drove me...

My next drill press project is going to be a frequency drive with a 3 phase motor. They run off single phase 120 or 240. I was watching a guy tap with one. He would hit reverse and the motor would slow, stop and reverse smooth as you please.

I spent time each of the last 3 days at "the range" and shot about 250 pellets. The scope is pretty well dialed in for the RWS 14.5G Superdome pellets I have. The Crosman Premier Domed will be here Wednesday and I'll see if they tighten up groups. I...

If the spool or the bore is warn replacing the seals is a waste of time. If it has had a lot of use or feels sloppy replace the valve. If it feels tight, no slop, replace the seals. The spool is that round thing inside the valve body attached to...

I used to but it's been years since I've seen 44 brass discarded at the range. Best deal on new brass seems to be Starline 1,000 boxes. I checked and every last one of them has the same headstamp so I guess I do sort after a fashion. Well there...

That's not fair! Stanley spent millions to design a tape measure that would jump off your belt when you weren't looking. They can also sense water. I had a brand new one jump into a creek just to avoid work. Can't blame that on CRS!

That sounds like the bottom Shoulder Bolt. It's down near the spout and it's very common for them to back out. The linkage gets caught between the shoulder and the bottom of the pot and the valve won't close.

You can do these on a table saw. Hex gives a good grip and you can sand down the edges if you like. Heavier, more durable wood transmits heat better. Lighter wood is a better insulator. These are Oak.
