A good way to counterbore is to use a rotating pilot chamber reamer having a pilot which "fits" and run the reamer into the muzzle only enough that the case shoulder on the reamer cleans up the damaged crown. The neck and throat of the reamer will...

The ogival flat-nosed Cowboy bullets feed better in lever-action rifles than the sharp-shouldered Keith type, but if shooting revolvers only the Keith design with large meplat and full-diameter front band above the crimp groove, which fits the...

I've found that if your Star machine in .38 Special or .45 ACP is set up and adjusted to meter a safe charge of Bullseye, that you can refill your measure and meter the same volume of 452AA or WST and you will have a safe load which gives just a bit...

Only instance I am aware of a grass fire being started is when full-scale muzzleloading cannon are shot. Normal range precaution is to have a Fedco 5-gallon backpack pump available to extinguish small fires as they occur. ...

Hopi yellow, or black pinto "Maawiw' ngwu" beans are wonderful if you live somewhere you can get them. My late aunt used to send them to me from Arizona. These days seek out October Bush or Six Nations Beans you can find at farmer's markets in...

Tex, Please correct me if this is incorrect, but IIRC chili with beans was an attempt to stretch the contents of the pot farther when there were more mouths to feed, but not enough meat, either due to poverty, or bad luck hunting. I believe also...

Longer barrels are also much quieter! Especially when shot with "Cat Sneeze" type loads. Fiocchi .32 S&W Long factory wadcutter, fired in my relined and rechambered English rook rifle having a 25-inch barrel is no louder than an air rifle.

The olive oil-beeswax works fine in rifles. You may need to adjust the amount of olive oil to get the consistency you want, but with bullets having a large lube groove and adequate lube capacity, you can run 100 rounds of black powder with no...

RogerDat replied to a thread Small score in Lead and Lead Alloys
Nice score, much easier to move a ton (or 1000 kilo's) of lead in scores like this of manageable amounts. If I found and could afford a huge batch it might seem like work to move it, and I'm sure dear wife would have an opinion on it. No much...

Nice idea. You can use the non-stick muffin pans. Just heat them and eventually they finish off gassing from the non stick coating. Doesn't take filling them with hot lead many times before they stop making bubbles of gas on the surface of the...

Neat pictures. I would advise NOT uploading high resolution pictures. First because if the dimensions are too large or the file size is too large the upload will fail. Second because you have an allowance of space for uploads. Smaller picture...

Done PROPERLY, annealing the case body only, and protecting the head k, l, m regions from heating this would help and is safe. You DO NOT want to anneal the entire case, only the mouth and upper 3/4" of the case body. Standing the case heads in...

RCBS Cowboy dies work great. But if you come across a set of RCBS .4C55 MkII dies they will work well to also load not only .455s, but the shorter .45 Cowboy Special cases and .45 Auto Rim as well as being able to be backed off for .45...

This is mostly a case sizing issue, not a brass issue. A typical .45 Colt chamber is .480+" in diameter. Modern dies resize the brass to .470-" in order to provide adequate bullet pull with .451-.452" diameter jacketed bullets. Excessive...

You can improve the cavity geometry from that used on the original stab-based originals. Order the Accurate mold of your choice. I would use one with a crimp groove unless loading BP only. Send to Erik Ohlen to have him do inset-bar...

If bullet is sized so that you can push bullet through chamber and out front of cylinder by hand pressure only, feeling slight resistance, wiping a film of bullet lube on the throat walls, fit is then perfect. If bullets falls through chambers and...

They are not cast, but swaged. Appear to be dead-soft pure lead with clear wax film lubricant as is used on their .22 LR. Do not lead at 900 fps and are accurate from my Colt New Service M1909.
