I have had to "adjust" a couple of hammers once on a TC kit and once on a parts kit for a long rifle I bought years ago. My mentor said to remove the hammer and make a tool that will grasp the striker end. Then mount the hammer in a vise and move...

At our monthly muzzle loader matches we have several "original" rifle shooters and one has been regional champ, national champ and so on. I am not sure where he got the smoothbores from as he keeps that info close to his chest. The 75 caliber...

I have had to "adjust" the throw of the hammer a couple times and did not need to heat them up. I removed the hammer and held it in the large vise I have and made the bends. I left the lock mounted to the rifle so I could check the adjustment as I...

Well as I progressed from center fire AR-15 rifles into Sharps BPCR's I found the need for more and more stuff. These things are powder measures, screw driver set, punches/hammer set, cleaning patches (50 and 45 cal), wet patches, CO2 ball shooter,...

When I had my Sharps and a Rolling Block I used Buffalo Arms .458 Creedmoor grease groove bullet molds, 540 grains in pure lead. In my Pedersoli Gibbs I use their mold and they are like the Creedmoor bullet with the nose cut off so only 520 grains...

One thing you have to check is the length of the threaded portion of the nipple that goes into the threaded hole drilled & tapped into the bottom of the barrel. All of mine are too short to come even with the bore so after shooting 20 rounds or so...

As long as the cock hits what it is supposed to I would not worry about it. We have some shooters in our monthly matches that are shooting original 1800's and even a 1790 or two and they wobble all over but the flint sparks and they go BANG!

My under hammer goes "braless"! On the one I made it use a Mag Spark 209 adapter so there is very little if any flash soot out of the fore end and into the trigger opening. I have shot mine out to 200 yards now that I figured out the load somewhat...

A "chunk Gun" usually is a percussion or flint lock rifle with a long, large diameter barrel that can be upwards of 2 or 3 inches across the flats. They usually have a tang and globe sight or possibly a scope such as a Unertl. Since they are heavy,...

With my chunk gun, 50 caliber and 1 in 48 twist the round balls shoot very well out to 200 yards. Groups are the same for 50, 100 and 200 yards of course I have a Unertl 12 power scope on it. I use 80 grains of Goex FFG and if I shoot mini's then I...

When I think about it and doing several range trips. the lock nut does adjust the hammer but as it gets lighter the trigger pull gets easier also. With mine I polished the action and wrapped the breach area of the barrel with tape so I would not...

I use one on the slug guns I have that use a scope as those Unertl scopes need to be taken care of. Very little soot gets up there with one of those cups.
