I did some developments for my ancient carbine which was a Martini 303 carbine barrel on an 1896 Lee Enfield action. Now this barrel is worn like the rifling is rounded and the bore quite large and remember that in those days the bores were cut to...

Welcome aboard Leeroy. :drinks: I'm with Leeroy. I want to do the same thing but my preference would be something based on the 303 Brit case, like a 40 or even 44. Then again, I have a 410 single barrel that is sitting there calling for an...

Fat and heavy cast boolits seem to align in the bore very well. Even my rifle that puts a bullet skew will align a heavy (240gr) well. I'm super fast with a Remington 22lr sportmaster. Not so much with my Lee Enfields - I catch each case as...

I have a two-groove No4 that shoots Privi Partisan 180gr boat tails very accurately. They are .310 for a bore of .304 IIRC. Those privi's have the ogive further forward than larger diameter Hornady's or Speer's. I did recrown that rifle - by...

I've now found that oiling the abrasive pad patches works better. I used ATF which has a detergent in it, for better or worse. I gave my pig gun the treatment as this was leading with every shot, even low pressure loads. Now it doesn't. The...

I usually loaded mine down to .45-70 levels. With Rugers, you may want to check if it was a model where the bolt locks when on safety, or not. I had a .338 WM that didn't, and found when in rough brushy terrain, the bolt could be pulled open...

I just take any scrap wood, and rough one out when needed. As we know, files and rasps aren't cheap. The ones I use most cost from $50-70 each. I also use Bogg's for sharpening.

The brass wool would not polish the steel. My bores are mostly rust roughened, hense my attempt to polish them up. I plan on loading up and taking an interesting gun, a martini 303 carbine on a MkI action with a lightweight sporter stock.

If it's like one company I worked for, it would consist of inserting the barrel into a catch trap, and pulling the trigger.

I'd mentioned that a while back, warning those along the Missouri River to be prepared with sandbags. There is a LOT of snow in the mountains.

No you can't, it's an indication only but some powders are more interchangeable. ADI make some of the Hodgdon and IMR powders.

For those who leave a vent pick in while loading, if they will just give the gun a couple light slaps, or bounce it lightly on the ground a couple times to settle the powder properly, that is unnecessary, and gets the powder as close to the vent as...

Most experienced flintlock shooters will not use lead wrapped flint. Several makers will not warranty their locks if it is used. I am one builder who won't warranty a gun that the owner uses them.

I went west from Kalispell yesterday for a shoot. The snow is going away in my area, but I was amazed at how much snow is still on the ground just a little way west. And no one is giving Donald Trump any credit for ending global warming!

I would suggest trying two things - changinging powders and larger boolits. If a larger boolit will chamber in his rifle then why size them smaller? Have you recovered any of his fired boolits? I'm wondering whether gas erosion is occuring...

This current gun is right on 8.5#. I would estimate the small profile barrel to make into a rifle of around 7 - 7.5#.

Probably both. Also, the bore might be polishing up a little. Does that 3031 leave the bore dirty, as in sooty? I use clays for subsonic load testing and it is so sooty. It might be lubing the bore. There is a trick you might try and that...
