Oil in the bolt/firing pin channel can do that too. A gun can shoot fine then when it sits for a while, the little oil that is in there has time to flow then tit misfires on the next shot. I say it can happen and has happened to me - that doesn't...

That drop of mercury if I have my facts right, will dissolve into the lead, making it very soft. The exchange rate is 1 US $ to 1.56 NZ $ at this moment. Thinking about this Toz - it has a 1 in 14 twist. Some time back there was available...

If you have a custom muzzleloader builder in your area, they could do it. I did one for a friend a few weeks ago, took me under an hour.

After realizing my old pickup had more miles on the back of a tow truck than actually being driven over the past two years, I replaced it. It had cost me several thousand in repairs for a 32 year old pickup worth maybe $800. May be time to update if...

ADI actually manufacture many of the Hodgdon powders. Hodgdon do the rebranding so to speak. If the above equivalent shows an ADI powder with a Hodgdon equivalent, then ADI manufactured it - mostly. An example of where ADI do not manufacture...

I'm seeing that we have quite a selection of ammo here in New Zealand. A wide range of CCI ammo and also Winchester and Federal, some Eley, Lapua, Cobra, Browning and Remington. Prices vary from about NZ$70 to NZ$125 per 500 round brick. CCI...

Engagements during the Revolution usually started at 250 yards. Paper cartridges were the norm, so they were already paper patched.

I remember grand dad carried three WW1 German machine gun slugs in him until he died at 74. It must work pretty slow.

Provenance from family is often shaky and embellished over the years. You see that repeatedly on Antiques Roadshow. I wouldn't buy it for the sake of the story.

We never had much of a shortage of ammo. I can't what ammo brands we have but there is quite a range - or was when I last looked. I just bought Federal subsonic hollow nose. I do have the odd other brand, including a packet of 'yellow jackets'. ...

I wonder if Britannia metal would work? It's what modern pewter is made of, and is pretty available in junk shops and yard sales. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_metal

I never had much luck with any of them. I got a pair of thick soled winter boots, and screwed 1/4" self tapping hex topped screws into each lug. I could run on glare ice with them, if I was the running type. They have the added benefit of being a...

Well, I've just fired both guns with the shared bolt and both work just fine (apart from that painful having to first cock the one). This new one's bore looks good. Now to plan a trip to the range. That might be a while though.

The 'Toz 22' should have been 'Toz .22'. My bad - I always call a 22rf rifle a 22 or 22 rifle. At the time of posting the model number was unknown as the "Toz 17 USSR" on the receiver is covered by the scope rail and so the seller did not know...
