I posted several years ago about my experiments with Hi-Tek coating and the 223 Rem. I was heat treating lino and doing a modified baking of the HT with water quenching after baking. My bhn remained around 30. I used Hornady copper gas checks in my...

Have you shot these bullets yet? I have the same mold that cast about the same dimensions out of round and it shoots just fine. In my 30-06 I can get 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with around 2,500 fps. It does around the same at lower velocity in a...

Could be you have one of the old style sizing dies with no taper leading into the mouth, or there are burrs on the lube holes, or both. Clean the die and inspect it. Polish if burred and/or taper the mouth. Check the fit of the gas check at the...

Use caution on some of the load data out there for the 445SM. I had 2 different Contender barrels and both liked the surplus 680. Very similar to AA680. Not as fast as other powders but more accurate than most. The Lee 300gr RFN GC worked well at...

The old Pro Melt furnaces have a lifetime warranty so you could find a good used one and just add on the pid unit. There are parts available for them as I replaced the thermostat, switch, and pot on mine. The pot spout had been damaged by a previous...

As for seeing damage done by a neck crack it would be very difficult to see without a bore scope. I recently purchased the Lyman bore scope and was astounded to find some of my barrels that looked good with the eye actually had pitting, rough...

My alloy was streight Wheel Weights with about 1 persent tin air cooled Your alloy seems a little soft. I would go with the 170 gr. My RCBS 180 is my favoritq boolit for the 3030 and the 3006.

I have 6 of these rifles and have converted a lot of 30-06 based brass to the 7.65X53 Arg. brass over the last 30 years. The brass has not needed neck turning or reaming as the military chambers on the 1891 Arg. rifles is fairly large in the neck...

You won't need any more than 15 grains of Unique. The last deer I shot was with a 30-30 at 80 yards. I was shooting a RCBS 180 gr. actually weighed 192 with my alloy. I was loading these boolits with 10 gr. Unique. The boolit went all the way...

I would do some checking on the neck diameter. If your the one that converted 06 brass into 8mm you need to ream or turn the necks. Find a loaded 8mm round and measure the neck, do the same with 1 of your conversions, note the difference in...

Annealing went south with age it sounds like. The older the case the harder the case gets over time. Or.......the case was made to short causing the brass to stretch more than normal.
