I use my digital calipers, open them to the bullet diameter, zero it, and then measure the outside of the most distant bullet holes. No math needed.

Kinda compulsive a hobby, isn't it? Finding lead is an even greater challenge because it isn't concentrated in one spot. I find WW at 1 out of 10 intersections, and batteries only have 2 posts. Dentists don't use old X-rays anymore, and many...

Because I can, I always deprime and citric acid-wash w/SS pins all brass. It's easier to inspect and gets rid of the flash hole debris. I once seriously scratched a die trying to size first, but only did it once. Trying to save a little time...

I'm experiencing this same problem. I used the last of my 30 cal Hornady checks that I've had for about 15yrs, and opened a new box. Low and behold, they are too tight.

If ya ever have to move it in a HURRY, you'll quickly change your mind about how much is too much. No matter whether it is in buckets, crates, boxes, or sacks, they're too darn heavy. One trip I had so much on the very back of the truck that I...

A quick look at Quickload shows Herco being the best chioce for the 38spl, if bulkiness of a suitable powder is of your concern. Green Dot is a close second.

It looks evident that .309" was too small for your rifle. I would stick with .310" or .311" with any boolit you choose to use.
