A proper job can be done with only a go gauge and a depth mike. If no depth mike add a no go gauge and there is no question that it is correct. A go gauge and tape will work just fine for someone that knows how to use it. Proper use is having the...

Haven't worked with one of those, but re-cutting a throat is a simple job that most anyone can do. Rent or purchase a reamer, read how to do it, and git er done. Main thing is to go slow and straight. Mount the barrel vertical in a vise, use a...

I read on the internet that the steps could not be removed because a straight taper would make the muzzle way too thin. :groner: This was years after I had tapered a barrel for a school mate. I set the taper for each section( by setting over...

Those first two did not show on the page that opened when searching for the part number. To avoid confusion, what was the od and id of each? 8996k431 has an id of .18 and od of .25, also 9924k12 is the same size but a different spec material. ...

Saw it into 1/4 thick planks, check moisture content, when it stabilizes(2 months at same %) at less than 12% glue it together. I would use epoxy even though epoxy is rough on tools. Would consider other recommendations on glue if several examples...

Have only had experience with one type of nitriding, the melonite process. It was being used to harden the surface of electric motor shafts. We centerless ground them and then sent the shafts out for hardening, then polished them when they came...

Sounds like a good way to ruin the breech. Red heat will soften it so it is no stronger than mild steel. Not having seen one of these, I would no longer trust it. If the breech you mention is a fabricated monoblock, then the softened part may not...

The butt is an improvement over ar's(they are butt ugly), just needs walnut instead of black plastic. Even curly maple would be better than plastic.

What works in AZ would not work in AR. HUGE difference in humidity levels. When I get to set up my presses permanently I will look for some cheap cloth, such as old pillow cases, sheets, or blue jeans.

I built one in 30-40 Krag. While at CST I bought one that did not have a barrel, came with an 03A3 2 groove barrel that was not installed. The seller was a Canadian, so I convinced him he should fit and chamber the barrel because he would be...

That T/C TCR-83 looks good, but I would prefer a falling block if doing much shooting from a rest. It could be any of a number of designs old or new, with cartridges from mild to wild. Depending on the cartridge, a rolling block could also be a...

.300 Savage would be my first thought, just big enough to make casting easy and small enough to be economical with lead and powder, while also being a good deer and smaller game gun. (How's that for a run on sentence?)
