The short T/C bullets and the Lee REAL were designed for 1:48 barrels. Should work just fine. Try them and let us know.

How in the world does one load the last round from the magazine without closing the slide?

Hi Charles, The bowling pin pictured above appears to have an exit scar on the lower left. It could have been made by a rifle bullet though. Take care, Tom

Load a dummy cartridge. If it will chamber, then with reasonable charges of appropriate powder, you can use the bullets without sizing. However, best accuracy may be with or without sizing. You will have to make that determination.

Tatume replied to a thread Shotgun insert in Cast Boolits
Is your insert intended to be removable, thus restoring the gun to a shotgun? Or are you planning to make a permanent modification? If the latter, then I would recommend the stub method. Cut the shotgun barrel off, thread the stub that remains,...

There is a lot of variation in 43 Mauser chambers. If it was me, I would make a chamber cast before purchasing a mold.

Sorry. I should have been more specific. You are right, black powder shooters do tap measures, so it is an accepted practice among shooters. I was thinking in terms of laboratory procedure, since the OP is attempting to determine density.

Tapping is not conducive to good precision. The accepted practice is to dip and strike level.

This may be true for continuous practice, but for day-to-day carry my aluminum framed, , non-+P rated 38 Special is hands-down superior. I do not shoot it with +P, and if I ever (God forbid) have to shoot it, that one to a few shots will not hurt...

I've been carrying the 158 grain 38 Special FBI load for many years. It consists of a Federal SWC-HP Nyclad bullet loaded +P, and is quite a handful in a snub-nosed revolver. The bullet appears to be pure lead, and is enclosed in nylon to reduce...

Both appear to be excellent choices. Are you an experienced caster with lots of molds in other calibers? How many cavities to you wish? The Lee 358-158-RF would be an excellent alternative. It is available in two and six cavity versions. I...

Very good. It appears that you have a consistent sub-two MOA gun, which will put venison in the freezer at any range I would take the shot.

I rarely need to replace the nipple in my Parker-Hale Volunteer. Although I have a new one in my kit, I can't remember when I bought it. Nipple erosion is not an issue. Just replace it every few years when the hammer starts lifting.
