Weight and volume are not the same thing. A pound of lead chips takes up a lot less room than a pound of tumbling media. But with wax and alox, I spect it would be close to the same.

Old style gas checks do not crimp on, and will sometimes come off in flight. If my theory is correct, you would not crimp the whole check, just the leading edge. Similar to crimping a healed bullet. I do not have a 7-30 waters FCD at present to...

So I have some of the old ideal gas checks. I haven't used them yet, and have been researching their quirks. I've seen where people just use them and deal with the occasional off shot when they come off mid flight. And where people glue them on. ...

I use my hand press for priming with good satisfaction. I'm not super happy with lees ram prime unit though. It seems that it seats the primer slightly out of square on both the hand press and my spartan. Im looking to upgrade to one of the other...

The shell holder moves the inner sleeve up 1/2 inch or so. Set your die deeper and watch.

I gather you don't have a way to remove the primers such as a universal decapping die or an appropriate sizing die. Well, you can decap brass with a punch if you're careful. A drill press used as an arbor press would be safest. But I have...

I use the wife hair dryer if my sizer runs a little cold. I generally run soft lube but it gets a little stuff sometimes.

I've heard of at least one instance when someone made a solid connector bar to go between the priming ears that converted the spartan into an O press. If I recall, they were swaging with it. Anyone else ever hear of this?

My buddy had one. It was far better than the rough riders he normally has. It shot okay. My beef was the loading gate was very stiff. I would have tinkered on it if it were mine. He traded it off just as quick as he acquired it.

Thank you JM, that's very helpful. I think I will start with RCBS 38-150-SWC data however. Taterhead was nice enough to measure one for me and from the base to crimp groove was .360 and my lee measures .355. So it's very close in both volume...

I checked my book and it is indeed the 38-150-SWC I need. If you would measure that I'd appreciate it. I'm trying to find something similar to help with the lee 358-140-SWC load development.

Not to hijack this thread, but would someone be willing to measure the 38-150-kt bullet for me. I want the measurement from base to the top of the crimp groove.

I thought a roll pin was the type that was a made like a roll of paper towels. If you try to drive them they crush and mushroom badly.

Perhaps the powder don't like being compressed and is at the edge of it's optimum pressure spectrum. Or perhaps the load is right on the edge of a good spot for barrel harmonics. Or maybe the brass needs annealing and is causing differences...
