For our local big leaf maple, 2 gallons of sap turn into a little over a cup of syrup. It should be close to the same. What is interesting is that our local red alder also make a good syrup that is tangy and bright red. Unfortunately, the sap...

Not very many this morning since I did have to harvest maple sap from our trees. I did manage to cast enough for a couple session each of 210 gr 41 cal SWC, 130 gr. 358 cal RF, and 200 gr 30 cal. semi point Loverin plain base.

We are a little late for tapping in the PacNW but we tapped several of our big leaf maples this weekend and we already have several gallons of sap to reduce this week. This year we aren't doing just maple syrup. At each boiling session when we...

quilbilly replied to a thread Boolit in sabot in Muzzleloading.
I use one of my 50's with sabots and 429 cal 260 SWC's for elk and they are devastating. The ballistics of the saboted boolits give you an extra 50-100 yards without having to do drastic ballistic calculations in your head. My load is 75 gr of...

Some years back I ran into a screaming good deal on a new Mossberg 464 30/30 with a wood stock for just under $300 so I bought it as a truck rifle. It turned I got a lot more than I paid for. It has been a wonderful shooter of cast. It loves the...

I use that same boolit for hunting loads in both my 30/30 and 308 using RE-7. When I did my terminal ballistics tests in soaked, compressed phone books some years ago, I concluded that I didn't need a velocity much over 1650 fps. to do anything I...

No matter how bad it gets for marine recreational fisheries (MRF) in Puget Sound and the Straits of Juan de Fuca, it will be the best it will ever be again. The state is moving headlong toward eliminating MRF in Western Washington except the Makah...

Welcome to our fascinating craft and the site. I agree with JonB. Uniformity in size and roundness is very important. Eliminating that variable will allow you to freely experiment with other things like lube, powder, velocities etc. Much of...

I have a T/C Contender 10" barrel in 45 ACP. My am using 4.6 gr of Bullseye with a 230 gr RF for a muzzle velocity of 1060 fps. My experience with PRB in my 45 muzzle loader tells me that that 45 ACP load will be more than adequate for small to...

My journey with 308's and CB's has been interesting. A couple years back I saw such a good buy on a Rem. 308 I couldn't pass it up just to shoot CB's in it. I was so happy with it, I picked up a Mossberg Patrol 308 with the short threaded barrel...

I much prefer 3F over 2F for any of my 50 cal muzzleloaders. 78 gr is my universal load for PRB for deer or sabot'ed 429 pistol boolits for elk. As far as Pyrodex is concerned, it worked pretty well in a drier climate but up here during our...
