Yesterday I was at our club range when a young shooter came by with his brand new Ruger precision rifle in 308 to shoot for the first time at 100 yards. When I was about to leave, I offered him a chance to shoot my plain base 200's at 1350 fps so...

My favorite light load for my 30/30 has been the Lyman 130 gr plain base boolit and an 80% load of Trail Boss for about 1350 fps. It has been deadly on coyotes and keeps the gong ringing at 200 yards all with its iron sights. Recently I acquired...

I traded for one of those 4-1/2" bbl convertible 45/45ACP Blackhawks a year ago and really like it. The 45 ACP cylinder tends to shave a lot of lead on the barrel but the 45 LC is great and very accurate. You certainly don't need heavy loads if...

On the other end of the scale are the Ozette potatoes we grow over here on the Olympic Peninsula. Most are about the size of your thumb. They are small and they are the best I have had but they are so rich and heavy, you can't eat very many even...

Welcome back! If you can ever make it to NCBS, I would love to hear more about your experiences "counting grass" in Nevada and beyond. As an old (very old) fish biologist, I find botanists to be a fountain of knowledge on the relationship between...

I found a lady's leather bag (purse) at a garage/estate sale and it looked much like these. Been using it ever since. In the field it not only has to have speed loaders but also a boxcutter and , of course, TP.

quilbilly replied to a discussion An end to shooting ranges in group Left Coast Casters
The hearing was last night and the members of the JCSA flooded the hearing room outnumbering the anti-range people by about 3 to 1. We got our point across (3 min speeches for 2 hours). Now we wait. There is a rumor afoot that the anti-range/gun...

I gave the BlackMZ the moisture/humidity test. I set a small pile of it outside on a paper towel on the covered porch for five days of fog and 90+% humidity. The powder was caked and spongy but when I set a match to the paper towel, the powder...

Here in Jefferson County the Seattle Bloomberg anti gunners have moved their anti-gun/anti-shooting range activity to our county to shut down the Jefferson County Sportsmen's Assn. range and prevent a new shooting range from being built. The...

That boolit and a terminal velocity of 1100 fps if it is only a moderately hard alloy will do just fine by my own experiences with both muzzleloaders and modern. You just have to hit them in the right place as others have said.

I still haven't had the chance to do the "pile on the porch" test to see how fast the BlackMZ draws out moisture from the air but I did use it in my 50 Cal. sidelock with PRB for the first time after making sure it was ready to hunt with 3f Goex. ...

I absolutely agree with Doug and also prefer a little softer alloy. My personal rule is to look at terminal velocity versus boolit weight. Given the size boolits you are using, a terminal velocity of 1000 fps at the maximum range you intend to ...
