Our hummers started returning a week ago and the swifts arrived this morning. I even saw the first garter snake out sunning itself this morning while I was mowing. One of our spring rituals is to go down to the bay and rake some steamer clams...

I guess it just is personal preference and I don't find it particularly messy. I pan lube with Alox in a special 8" pan used only the job and dry overnight on aluminum foil. I don't do that many boolits at a time (in a day) since I make my alloy...

My experience with TB is that the minimum load is closer to 80% of max. Anything below 80% resulted in extreme variations in velocity on my chronograph. A 95% load density (just a little below the base of the boolit) resulted in an MV of 60% of...

Some years back I did a terminal ballistics test with the Lee 160 gr RNGC out of my 30/30 at 40 yards. The MV was 1550 fps and the media was soaked, composed phone books. The result was spectacular for both penetration and wound channel which...

Cheapest gas I have seen in my business travels around W. Wash. this week has been $3.07 but we have the second highest gas tax in the nation. The price has gone up about 40 cents in the last month here. The ecofascists are now getting signatures...

quilbilly replied to a thread cast and 7mms in Cast Boolits
It is not your caliber but my most accurate cast boolit rifle is my 7mm TCU. My best accuracy is with the Lee 130 RNGC at just under 1900 fps and the Lee 140 gr RFGC at about 1750 fps is an excellent deer boolit. I am just using the Lee pan lube...

I recently bought a Mossberg 308 Patrol rifle with the threaded 16" barrel. It is quite accurate with jacketed and it also likes heavier CB's (180-200's). By taking off the flash hider and putting on the thread protector then using faster...

Stop now before it's too late!!! Send them to me so I can dispose of them properly. Barrels aren't the only part that multiply like rabbits. So do the frames. Pretty soon you will find yourself in some shop thinking you need another frame so...

I recently have been using one of those inexpensive Primo electronic calls with the fawn distress sound and it really brings them in around here plus it will work on bear. I have also been using an old Herters fawn distress mouth call for decades...

You shouldn't need that dacron with 2400. My 308's certainly don't require it. Blackpowder bug? Cartridge or muzzleloader?

This weekend I got the potatoes, onions, and the first batches of spinach and radishes in the ground even though the ground is a bit cold yet 9it was 28 yesterday morning). Next up will be lettuce, arugula, and carrots in a week or so.

I think in terms of terminal velocity at the farthest range you intend to shoot at a deer (and still be accurate, of course). With that boolit, a terminal velocity of 950 fps will do anything you want it to do for deer. High velocity is overrated...

A few years ago I broke the stock of my T/C Seneca 45 on a stump while dragging a mule deer to the truck. For a while I shot it when it was fixed with duct tape (actually shot even more accurately with PRB). Last year, a friend who is a gunsmith...

Here is a thought. Last year when I started playing with the new (then) 200 gr Lee RFGC boolit, I tried using a small star drive screwdriver to tap a bit of a hollow point in the boolit with a plastic mallet. It did put a small hollow point in...
