Too bad about the 29-3, but it sounds like you at least got a decent replacement. An off topic comment, but I used to really stress about loss of value on a gun (or car, or tool). It really hurt to damage a valuable item. I've never blown up a...

I posted about this issue in the handguns forum, but had a more specific question so figured I'd ask you all here. I pierced a primer in my S&W 29-8 and it torched the firing pin something ugly. I then fired another round and the destroyed firing...

I have to agree with that. I told a coworker a while back that my loyalty extends as far as my paycheck, as the company has proven their loyalty to us is just as shallow. True loyalty in the workplace seems to be a thing of the past. I would...

So that's what I was doing wrong! I thought they looked funny, big bulbous bullets with multiple tips... Reminds me of the old joke about the cow that jumped the barb wire fence... udder destruction. Sure, funny joke and all, but if you ever...

I did a little research and found this thread from ten years ago: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?36719-Pierced-Primers Apparently Federal had some bad primers some time back. It appears pretty clear that these are some of them.

Here are the last six round fired. The bottom middle one pierced, and the bottom right was the last one fired. The damaged firing pin stuck in it and locked the gun up solid. As you ca see, the indentation in the previous four is perfect, no damage.

I only have maybe a box and a half left, besides the couple hundred rounds I'm in the process of pulling down. It hardly seems worth it. I'm actually certain that it was one round that did it, without a doubt. I haven't had this gun very long...

Has anyone noticed whether powder coating seems to be a little more forgiving in regards to undersized bullets? Yes, I know "fit is king", but it's just an observation I wonder about. Here's what I've been working on: I have a Yugoslavian Tokarev...

I don't even remember where I got the primers. I've had them a long time but they look fine. It looks like I can get a new firing pin from Brownells for $6. It looks pretty simple; I could even make one if I wanted. I'd just never seen something...

I have a bunch of old Federal 155 LPM primers that I'm going to throw away, once I remove them from all the ammo I have to pull apart. The first trouble I had with them was a while back when I was working up a full power 44 mag load in a rifle. I...

Well said. The world is a different place now. Loyalty seems to be a thing of the past. My own work went from a company who wanted the best people, with pay and benefits to keep them, to a company that wants the cheapest people who can minimally get...

I certainly wasn’t meaning to disrespect the M1 by calling it obsolete. It’s one of my favorite rifles, one everyone wants to shoot at the range. I wouldn’t feel under gunned with an M1 if it was my only rifle, though I’m not sure I’d care to pack...

I hear you; they don't seem obsolete to me either, but by modern military standards they were obsolete long, long ago. To me it's quite a testament to a great design far ahead of it's time that it would even be debatable whether an 80 year old...

Well, just called both the insurance and the hospital. Unbelievable. No help at all, they didn't want to even talk to us about it. "Just wait until you get the final bill and we can set up a payment plan." After insurance it's still over $5k,...

Thanks, we'll call again. My wife thinks something's funky with the bill anyway; things don't add up. Hopefully there's been a mistake, but I don't dare count on it. It's crazy how bad it's gotten in the last decade. Just over ten years ago with...

Sounds like you had a parts kit in need of a barreled receiver. Pretty cool to find someone to help you out like that. You'll love your new rifle! I know the old Garand is obsolete in many ways, but they still hold their own pretty well for an 80...

I have several old boxes like that. They are collectible as far as that goes, but not particularly valuable, just too common. Last year I picked out seven loose rounds dated 1917 from my collection, and shot them. For 100 year old ammo they all shot...

I'm confused; what is a 4.89 GPA? Must be some new kind of grading scale I'm not familiar with. Seems like much ado over nothing. The computer system did what it was programmed to do because it can't be programmed to think. The order got screwed...

I use these cases for a specific purpose. I trim them down to make 9x18 Makarov brass. With tapered 9mm brass, sometimes it seems I’d get more “bullet bulge” than I wanted. I was scrapping this stepped brass anyhow so I trimmed some and found a...
