For a sporter I'd go with the Brazilian 7mm. You can always shorten the long barrel enough to eliminate the badly worn portion.

I've heard of an Australian barrel mod to convert to .30-30 Winchester for 200 yard match shooting. The smaller case being more efficient when light loads are used. The barrel shank is cut off and bored and threaded, the cut off barrel is...

IMR 4198 always worked great in my Persian Mauser. I used a light load, don't remember the exact weight of the charge but something over 30 grains, behind a 160 grain J-word bullet. Tamed muzzle blast and recoil and gave uncommonly good accuracy....

An older drugstore in town kept a huge glass canister marked Cocaine on the counter. A gunsmith can alter the serial number of a receiver so long as he does the proper paperwork. I've read of this process in regard to replacing a damaged Model 70...

The modern tendency for either/or absolutism makes understanding this difficult for some. I have my own theory about the low number receivers bored for the "Hatcher Hole". When drilling through a carburized layer you can feel the difference even...

Most Mauser stocks have a short square bottomed furrow behind the rear of the receiver for clearance for the bottom of the cocking piece. Some times a replacement stock does not have that furrow pre cut or not cut deep enough.

I don't think the dump valve of the 880 would be adversely effected by leaving the gun cocked. Beeman coated wad cutters work best on my 880.

I upgraded a modern 880 by adapting the metal receiver and pump arm to fit. Its accurate beyond belief. I've been using an old BSA 3-7X but recently removed it to use on another rifle till I find the proper scope for it. The iron sights have...
