Learn to shoot pistols with your offhand while your other hand heals. I do recommend not doing casting when you are one-handed. Bruce

De lubing bullets is a lot of trouble, especially when several people on this thread have told you they can be shot over 1000 FPS without leading. Tumbling them in LLA like Larry said will take 30 seconds plus the drying time and will be as good a...

Elmore Leonard wrote some entertaining stuff as did Louis Lamour, though I never really thought either was a great writer. Lamour was an interesting dude, and in my opinion, Last of the Breed really stands out among his works, very good book. ...

I've been shooting a lot of 311466 bullets in a few things, including a Savage 340 which shot it well, but looking for a hunting load, so I want something with a flat nose. If the Ranchdog doesn't do it, though I think it will, I'll go back to...

Yep, swaged not cast which means very soft but does not necessarily mean leading at moderate velocities. Hate to point out the obvious, but you have them loaded up, try them and see if they lead and or shoot badly, why take some stranger's word...

The Savage 219 would make a good squirrel rifle, in fact, my go to fox squirrel gun is a 219 in .22 Hornet. Been thinking a load like this Ranchdog load and then a load with the Lee 113 grain Soup Can and about 8 grains of 700X or thereabouts and...

I am fully on board with the "his rifle, he can do what he wants with it" mentality, I truly am, but that is still painful to look at.

These Ranchdogs were cast from that same 50/50 + 2% tine, but I water dropped them, so harder than I should hunt with. That same bullet and alloy, but air cooled worked quite well on a good buck a few years ago in a .308. The 219 I shot this...

What are those funny looking coppery things loaded into all that brass? Since I got a place of my own to shoot, I'm shooting more, seems hard to find the time to reload as much as I'd like. During Winter when I don't have day light after work, I...

I cull them out of my range sweeps and then reform them to .400 Corbon so that they'll never be used for 45ACP cases again and my higher pressure 400 CorBon loads have a cartridge case with just a touch more brass in the head. So if you want to...

A couple of months ago, I impulse bought another Savage 219 and like it a lot, turned out to be quite a good shooter with various cast. The barrel was drilled and tapped for a scope so that helps. Anyway, looking around, between the son and I we...

I once owned a Destroyer Carbine in 9mm Largo that I used to use Lyman's 356402 Truncated Cone bullet with but mostly it was for rolling cans/dirt clods at the range. That same bullet and load in my Star Super will rip the center out of a target...

True as far as the tools change with technology. I'm old school by virtue of my age and era. In 1971 there were not many choices of quality small reliable defense capable handguns that were not based on revolver design. Most of the small automatics...

This is a stand alone die made by RCBS for the sole purpose of seating and applying a tapered crimp only. Does anyone know if it can be used to apply a tapered crimp on a 380 acp cartridge? Thanks.

Yes. Thus was the first handgun I owned. I was pretty ticked when it was stolen, since I felt sure who did it, but had no proof so could not get a search warrant issued. I think I kept the second mag as a reminder about human nature an even seemly...

I saw an old Ideal bullet mold on Ebay today that is a 165gr .319 rounded flatnose, flat base lead bullet that was originally designed for the early 8x57 (pre-K98 .318" barrels) and other early 8mm rifles. Should be easy sizing down for that .318...

The first "small bore" cast bullet deer I killed was with my 340 (actually, a Sears named Savage 340). Used an old Ideal mold of the 31141 and 25 grains of the B-West BW 36 powder that burned like 3031. Good load that shot well in mine.
