Plus 1 on the Model 141s. A 760 seems like an awfully big and ungainly rifle for a relatively light cartridge like that. I like my 141. One day, I want a 760, but it'll be a .30-06. Seems like a .35 Whelen would be a good chambering for it too.

Think .30-30 is bad, my 219 in Hornet will launch them into orbit.

The first gun I bought, really bought from a gun store on my own without my Dad, was a Savage 110, plain jane birch stock, blind mag in 1988 from Murf's guns in Duncan, Oklahoma. Darn thing is very, very accurate with anything I handload for it and...

My estate purchased Ponsness Warren model 375. I just love the precision that this machine is capable of turning out the best crimped shotshells. Be they paper or plastic hulls. Also, a image of my great, great, grandfathers brass mold that he used...

Generally, the bigger case capacity of it is going to be a problem for getting good accuracy, I would think, but it is definitely worth a try. A 7mm Mag is an expensive thing to shoot, even if you handload and if you like the rifle, coming up with...

The Optima Elite I have in 7mm-08 is a good rifle, shoots cast pretty well. It is homely, but that stock is a nice design, seems comfortable shooting from a bench or any position.

Had a very similar experience with them sending an old Contender back about a year ago. They did all the work free and even payed for the ride back and forth. Pretty happy with their customer support.

I used to deer hunt on Fort Sill and they are everywhere. An armadillo can make more noise than 100 deer. Never felt a need to kill one, but considered it a few times as annoying as the noise was while on a tree stand. They are real easy to get...

30-30 Winchester as Parent Brass or 303 British? If so, than someone else has considered it in thr more than 130 years that each cartridge has been around. look up the .303 Pygmy cartridge for what some folks in Australia and New Zealand have...

I still stop at sites when I see a crew re-roofing a house and ask. Oftentimes they'll just give me the boots that go around vent pipes and such which are just about pure in my experience.

The wife and I stopped by the DAV thrift shop today and I found a pewter bowl (marked pewter, but I can tell it is anyway), probably weighs a full pound for $1.25. I bought this one, too good a deal to pass on. Not even a very interesting bowl,...

I have really grown to like the .30-40 Krag as a cartridge. I like single shot rifles too. You have a very nice rifle there and you are a talented stock maker.

There's a guy who makes the gun show circuit around here with a bunch of 788s, priced high to me, but all are in good shape and it seems to me like he had one last time. I have to admit to not being much of a Remington fan, but I like the 788s. ...

Reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode where the old hillbilly died while unsuccessfully trying to save his dog and they both walked the road to heaven. He gets to one gate with a smooth talking gatekeeper who says he can't bring the dog in as there...

One should be careful when buying pewter items for melting down, some can be worth quite a bit to collectors. Much more than their value as tin.

I had one in .30-30 for a while, it was accurate with cast, but I eventually sold it as it didn't seem to do much for me, which is odd because I like the 788s. I've had a few over the years. The one I have in 6mm is very accurate. I have one of...

Something I hadn't considered, but likely very true. Probably has short throats as well. May not be good with cast if that's the case.

Saw something about this, apparently another benchrest/varmint wildcat from the golden era. Looking at the description, it seems it was based on the .250 Savage case and looks to me an awful lot like the 6mm Creedmoor that is making such waves...
