Finding a mentor would be great for someone getting started. I've never had one, I learned casting and loading through the reading of many books and this forum.

Congratulations on the bird! I'm new to Turkey hunting. For most of my adult life my work schedule did not allow for me to be off in the Spring. Because of this I'm just now getting into fishing too! I'm a little handicapped hunting Turkeys...

Well, I like the paint job. If I was in a pawn shop and they were selling it for 250.00 and a disgusted look, I'd buy it. It would be interesting to know the story behind it. Lags, thanks for sharing. That looks pretty darn nice. It's a...

Years ago when I switched from the old black Lyman Ideal lube I cleaned my dies by boiling them. I removed the "O" ring and put the dies in a pot of water on the burner I use for melting lead. A tooth pick got into the tight places. Steel wool or...

I would suggest reading the book "From Ingot to Target" and Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook first. Then start scrounging for lead. Then buy some basic equipment and try to make bullets. Finding a mentor would be a good first step too!

I have to agree with most of the above. But I have mixed feelings. One side of me thinks that most departments are short handed and more officers should be better. The other side of me thinks that we already have laws against these crimes and...

I've boiled them before and that works pretty well. If the lube is varnish like I think maybe a soak in kerosene or hoppes 9 would clean it up.

Howdy and welcome to the forum. You didn't say but it sounds like you're using lee push through sizing dies? I've found that if I polish the inside of the die, I have no problems sizing the bullets dry. Then I tumble lube in a ziploc bag,...

Bazoo replied to a thread Used moulds in Casting Equipment
Surface rust on an iron mould is not an issue in most cases. You can use a bronze bore brush chucked in a drill to scour the cavities and a bronze toothbrush on the faces and top. Steel wire brush or steel wool on the exterior. I'd be much more...

The 16 gauges decline began in 1926 when they invented the game of skeet. It was decided that only 4 gauges would be allowed, 12, 20, 28, and 410 bore. As skeet grew, available bird hunting was declining, and while many 16 gauges remained in...
