For my 45 caliber slug guns I have 3 cast bullets. First is the 540 grain BASCO (Buffalo Arms) Creedmoor that just rides slightly on the bore diameter of all 4 of my slug guns. Two of them have Green Mountain barrels, one is a Pedersoli Gibbs and...

I would seriously doubt that is a field or hunting gun due to the stock and large barrel. The rifling will require a wet and dry patch after each shot. The fore stock is meant to be sitting on a rest or "log" or "table" for matches. In a private...

Given the evidence I have seen in my terminal ballistics tests (40 yards into soaked, compressed phone books) of 30/30 boolits at a muzzle velocity of 1550 fps with a medium hardness alloy, you are good to go on any deer out to 150 yards. Just...

Since this rifle is a muzzle loader, the bullet will probably need to be bore diameter or as on the card 0.450 or maybe 0.451. The groove diameter is 0.457 which was what my BPCR guns were and I shot 0.458 diameter bullets BUT they were loaded from...

quilbilly replied to a thread 7MM Lee Mold in Cast Boolits
I really like that Lee 130 gr RNGC boolit for paper punching. In my 7mm TCU carbine, it has routinely been sub-MOA at velocities of about 1900 fps. It is definitely minute of coyote out at 300 yards. For larger game hunting I prefer the Lee...

The reason for the stitching is to use 2 thinner pieces of leather back to back so you have smooth leather on both sides. Stitching a solid leather belt doesn't do anything for the strength. My belts are one piece, and I make the carry belts out of...

Probably someone made themselves a chunk gun. The large and flat fore stock is meant to sit on a log or other similar surface. Since there is 45-70 engraved on it the barrel might be from a conversion. The high cheek piece and rearward mounted scope...

We now have had 5" of rain in the last 48 hours with more on the way. Late this morning I went down to the bay to check where I launch my duck boat. The wind was a steady 15 kts so the bay wasn't too bad but there was a empty van parked there...

Faster than you should need or want to. Most of the rifle cast calibers I shoot perform better accuracy-wise and field-wise at velocities well under maximum even on elk. Of course, this defies conventional wisdom but moderately soft...

quilbilly replied to a thread sabot source ? in Muzzleloading.
I like the MMP sabots a lot. They used to make the sabots for all the other outfits as well but that may not be true these days. The MMP blue color sabot is the one that allows shooting 357 or 9mm in the 45 cal. muzzleloader. For some reason,...

quilbilly replied to a thread Lee .357 Bulits in Cast Boolits
I have several of the Lee 357 molds. The one I use the most is the 125 gr RF which drops boolits at about 133 gr plus/minus 1 gr. I load that 125 boolit for light loads in my 38 sp. and in my 357 mag. load it for target at about 38+P velocity....

Our first big fall storm rolled through in the last 24 hours with 4" of rain and winds to 40. The ground is saturated now and the next storm rolls in late tonight so should bring in another couple inches of rain. My chainsaw is sharp and fueled.

I did several expansion tests some years back with 30 cal CB's using water soaked, compressed phone books at a distance of 40 yards and will be doing more shortly. Until now it was just 160 gr. RNGC's and 113 gr RFGC but will be doing 158 gr RFGC...

Since every barrel has a personality, my range results with the 16" barrel Mossberg may not apply to your barrel. At the 100 yard range I tried RE-7, 4198, and 5744 all for velocities at around 1650 with the 180 gr RNGC boolit and the results...

I have used those of and on for decades, especially on my 444 Marlin, but now that I use cast and have reduced loads accordingly, I no longer need one. As others have noted about plain base boolits, I barely know the 444 is going off with a plain...

Hi Brad, In brief, yes that is doable & if I were 30 years younger that would be my first effort. BUT I'm not and , so far, my search has suggested that it would be very expensive, even if you could find someone capable to do it. Another method was...

Mike doesn't ship out of the country, he has his things sent to somewhere in the US, I assume where he is originally from. I wouldn't even think of shipping out of country anyway, to easy to lose and/or get in legal trouble.

One of our shooters has some heavy barreled rifles from an estate and I was very interested as they are heavy, very heavy but were weird calibers such as 36 or 44 or such. So I passed but I'll check to see if he still has them.

Ok, I talked to a very competent gunsmith who does lots of rifle work. He says the thread pitch is right but the diameters are different,so Uberti barrels won't fit Winchesters. So this is still up for grabs.
