People think I am nuts putting $300+ scopes on hunting rifles but I want not only good optics but some abuse resistance on a gun I hunt game with. Just not in my budget to spend that kind of money of a .22 scope. I just bought a 3-9 Vortex...

There are people I cannot love. I am lucky that I do no longer hate anyone, but have a dose of dislike for a few. It is a good post RL69. Much to learn from it.

Agree with DG. Makes little sense to buy a .357 to hunt with unless you are in caliber/cartridge restricted zone. I have three .38/.357 lever actions and they are great fun and predator guns. I can kill a deer with them...but why? I have...

I am not a fan of the 50 rd mags either. Might have some use for rabbit hunting but you would think 10 shots are going to be plenty. I have two 10/22's but never had an itch for the takedown model. I do not backpack so even if I had one, I...

It has been a weird year in my part of MI as well. The harvest is way down. A father and daughter who normally harvest 10 deer a year only got 2 this year during rifle season. I only harvest one a year as that is all I want, but normally see...

There was a member here that put a silencer on a ..38/.357 lever action. It always seemed to me that it would be a very good survival/SHTF weapon. Add a Sig Romeo dot sight (currently selling for $100) would make a fine addition. I have...

The .35 Remington is such a good woods caliber and it mates perfectly with the 336. Easy to mount a low power scope or Red Dot too. There will a slight velocity loss with the shorter barrel but to me it is a worthwhile trade off to get a rifle...

A number of factors at play. First the design works. But also bear in mind it is a bullet that is shot in guns that are inherently accurate. I shot 10's of thousands of solid H&G #50 BB bullets and in extensive testing found that the difference...

Appreciate your response. I will continue to use JHP for defensive use in my 9mm’s and .38/.357’s. The .38/.357 are loaded to +P level as my fiancé cannot handle.357 loads. There is no reason for me to hunt deer with pistols or pistol...

Felt recoil will be affected by stock fit. You want the comb of the stock to move away from the check bone. That requires the comb to slant slightly upward from breech to butt, and slightly inwards from front to back...so the stock is moving away...

I hope that Larry Gibson sees this and offers his opinion. It would help to know what the rifle will be used for. If it will not be a hunting rifle, and just used to punch paper, the .223 is worth consideration. I buy 55 gr jacketed SP's for...

12-13 gr of Promo/RedDot seems so much easier and predictable. Cost of powder for a box of 20 works out to $3.60 for BP vs $.60 for Promo. Cannot see any advantages to BP....unless one enjoys cleaning their rifles frequently.

It has been a while since I shot CAS but the .30/30 was not permitted unless shooting the Long Range sub-event, and in that application, a heavier bullet is better. So kind of confused about the "cowboy" load you are searching for.

Exactly….OP was not even up to .30/30 levels and it worked great. Most hunters would be better off with a .30/30 unless they need to reach our farther than 200 yards. I see guys using 7mm Mag on 100 lb deer hunting in the woods...just so stupid. ...
