dverna replied to a thread Where to reload? in Our Town
I would buy cast bullets and mount a progressive press on something. My mentor lived in a one bedroom apartment and had two Stars mounted on wooden chairs. Seems to me the bulk of the savings are not from casting bullets but reloading. YMMV ...

dverna replied to a thread Deer scent attractants in Our Town
My neighbor is a 250+ acre deer camp. Those guys were heavily into scents until this year. Now at least two of them think they are a waste of money. I am thinking about planting apples and chestnuts to attract them onto my property. Already...

I cannot shoot like that with jacketed. At 500 yards, the wind will get to me, even if the gun and load are capable. A 10 MPH wind will give over 2 ft of windage. Great shooting waco.

I missed a 275 shot last year using my M70 due to the scope. I had dropped the rifle during the hunt. 275 yards is not a risky shot for the gun...it is sub MOA. Checked it after the hunt and it was 6” from where it should have been at 100 yards. ...

Some progressive presses have issues with consistent priming. I owned an RCBS Green Machine that was pathetic. Some of the more modern presses still have issues...will not mention names as it causes such angst with those who own them. Then there...

Interesting. I never trim pistol cases but see how it could affect crimp consistency and thus accuracy. I know that Star made a taper crimp die for the .38 Spl and I suspect it was to address that problem. Likely a taper crimp is not ideal for...

I saw that and nearly bought it. But for a deer hunting rifle I am ok with the stock trigger and it breaks clean and that is way more important to me. It can get cold and miserable in Michigan. LOL. 725, I doubt this will be a 1/4 MOA rifle,...

dverna replied to a thread Neat little gun in Leverguns
I saw one of the new Marlins and it looked decent to me. Never cycled it or tried the trigger. But I already have enough .30/30’s, one of which is a 336, so I am not in the market for one. A smaller more compact 336 would be nice though.

I have the older version of the RCBS Chargemaster and so far so good. I put a .224 bullet on it to check if it is weighing accurately. Then dial in the charge weight and press dispense. By the time I seat the bullet, the next charge is ready. ...

It has been about a 50 year trip. Started with a Lee Target loader and seated every primer one at a time with that. It made great ammunition but was slow. Upgraded to a Co-Ax and primed on the press. The Co-Ax is one of the worst priming set...

Yesterday we had a bear "net" roast. For those who do not know, that is seasoned cubed bear meat that is stuffed into netting. Cooked it in a slow cooker with olive oil, soy sauce, garlic, honey, chicken broth and pinch of ground ginger. ...

One of the most accurate .22's I ever shot was a Martini actioned competition gun. Like others have said, my eyes are not good anymore so if I ever got one in CF I would mount a 1.5-5x scope on it. Just a dandy action and trigger. Love single...

I think Randy's press is great for folks who want to do some or all their reloading functions away from a bench. It is well engineered. As many have stated, one size does not fit all when it comes to presses or how we do thing.

I bought two of these for $425 net when they had the rebates a few months back. Both in .308. One to replace my M70 Coyote, that was getting a bit heavy to hunt with, and another for my son. BTW all groups reported are 5 shot. Finally got...

You can have someone measure the air pressure they use on a cylinder and the piston diameter. That will give you the force Then measure the distance between the pivot point and cylinder. That will give you the torque needed.

Char-Gar, You are assuming YOUR needs are the needs of ALL....and you are not correct in your assumption. For example, I NEED the productivity of the Dillon 550 as I shoot a lot of 9mm and .38's...but I WANT the production rate of the 1050...and...

Ideally I want both. Expansion to dump most of the energy into the wound, and a hole out the other side. I feel overgunned using the .308 on deer as most of my shots are going to be under 150 yards and a FP .30/30 is plenty...but I want to be able...

Even marked cans that have been opened can get you into trouble. No guarantee the can holds what is marked or that is was not contaminated by someone dumping some different powder in by mistake. I know someone who buys opened cans at gun shows...
