It's a Taurus. Poor quality from end to end. It's no surprise metallurgy lacks as well as other qualities they don't have. Really sorry it blew up on you.

.54 is the most popular in this area. .50 is fairly rare. I just finished a .53 Poor Boy a couple days ago.

I disagree with removing it every time. That causes thread wear, and failure. Myself and other gun builders I know recommend only removing once a year for examination. Put them back in with anti-seize on the threads. The only reason to remove one is...

For elk and moose, I would recommend nothing under 260 gr. I wouldn't even consider the 200-220 gr. range. Off angle shots may not give the penetration you want. IF you are going to push beyond factory velocities for cast, better have a good rifle...

I've used Rich's flints, and bless him for making them available. However I did find they really wear a frizzen, so I keep them for emergency use only.

................As life continues on I've been selling of some unused firearms and other gun related odds 'n' ends the past several months. I had an 01 FFL for close to 20 years, but that was used for 'Receiving' :-) and there wasn't any shipping...

.................This is a PS: to the above, I sure wish that somehow, someway the powers that be would jump out there and re-release a flatbolt version again in original chamberings! I'd buy one or two of'em. This one is chambered 38-55 and...

................I also have one. It's a rifle, 24" octagon bbl, blued, colorcased. Steve E recommended some heavy cast slugs for it and I can also recommend them. I like the RCBS 45-270 SWC, and have also used the Lee 458-340F (lube-size...

There is always if i recall correctly either "leementing" the mold or, less perminently, "beagling" the mold. Just be sure to use a soft fat boolit, that will obdurate and prevent gas blow by.

We should demand cell phone jammers be legalized. Why can't the phone be made to ring more than three times before it switches to voice mail? Why can't text messages be shut off?
