Make sure it's still straight, bulge will stretch more on one side. Mar need to true outside for function, hard to put metal back on as well:)

The old originals did not operate at the pressures we are used to now. That 550psi sounds right. The hand pumps they had could not reach any higher. From memory, co2 tanks are good to 750psi, and that will make a 36 or larger preform well. If you...

4198 is faster burning and not considered an optimal 30-30 powder for jackets loads. They probably did not do a full workup and published just some boundary loads. Also could have been spiky , or pressure rise vs velocity rise became a logical...

Good choice, I've been trying to be debt free forever, married with children, so ,, well still trying! That yukon should last you well, mine has 327,000 miles and a good friend put 300,000 on his before replacing it with another! The 5.3 is solid,...

Yes, I have wanted to do that for many years now. Just can't get started! Someone in South Carolina was going to produce enough a small run and I was going to get involved but nothing came of it. They are fascinating rifles, believe the Lewis and...

You may already know this , but these barrels are not "interchangeable" in the way we now think. The barrels are numbered to the gun as they are fit at assembly. I got lucky and found a gun that fit a solid rib barrel I already Had! I too would like...

Big, heavy and slow. A hard boolit and velocity well above 2000 fps haven't worked well for me lately. I think either of your loads will work just fine as long as the boolits hold together long enough to exit.

For most folks shooting mostly factory j-words a few times a year they're actually right. Thankfully it doesn't take much to bring it up to snuff for more discerning shooters and nice folks like DougGuy are happy to do it.

My old PPC gun (S&W 586) had a few thousand rounds thru the original barrel and maybe 10K through the first Douglas barrel before I ringed it by chasing a squib out with a round that had powder in it. Best I can figure the third and current barrel...

If in doubt pull 'em. IMHO you're too close to the ragged edge on this one and given the variations we have no control over you simply have no margin for error. Most likely your Ruger will handle them fine but when things go from together to apart...

I'm pretty sure I won't live long enough to wear out a rifle barrel with lead boolits. I have several that got a fifty year (or more!) head start on me and with the exception of the ones used with corrosive primers they'll outlast me in fine...

I'm in the process of loading about 1100 assorted 45acp (mostly range pickup) cases with some beautiful NOE H&G 68 clone boolits. As part of the process I'm lubing these pretty boolits with LLA so obviously they're not photogenic afterwards but I'm...

Didn't get much loading done, built up my supplies of .380 and 45acp a bit but spent most of my spare time in hunting camp or other road trips. I need to work up a few hunting loads before it gets too hot to shoot sporting rifles. I figure I have a...

That is a 1970s frame, the selector is in the face of the hammer. Straight blade screwdriver will rotate the slotted part. There are 2 fire ING pins In the frame. If the lockup is tight you should be good, read Blems sight about it. My newest frome...

Guess different folks have different experiences with them. I bought a new one in 1976 chambered in 44mag. Didn't shoot it a lot as it was the small grip and octagon barrel, kicked like a mule! That same frame wears a 357 Herrett barrel today and...

Yes, get a manual. Two is better. (I have well over a dozen.) They'll answer questions you'll never think to ask until it's too late. I like the Lyman 50th; if you can score a hardback version it will lay flat on your bench. I think you may get some...

My casting technique is far from perfect but I've found that a visual inspection generally results in a variation of less than 3% (generally 2%) of boolit weight and that seems to deliver acceptable accuracy in my rifles...at least with me shooting...

I use ammo cans for bulk or boxed ammo. I use coffee "cans" for bulk components like brass and boolits. I use flip top boxes for cartridges that I only load 50-100 at a time.

Hum,, I prefer the proven track record rather than new and improved. An 85 has been in the family for near 15 years with no problems. Hope the new one is as good.
