Out of curiosity, what is the remaking weight of that bullet after expansion in water? I am considering getting that bullet for a possible “new” 629 hunter.

If the petals all sheared off, what is left is “bullet dia”.

Got it clean, finally. Shot it a bit today, dang it’s hot. Took 2 to get it on at 25 yards, then 3 at 85 yards off the truck window into a couple inches, pulled 1. Adjusted 5 clicks down and 3 more into about 1 1/2. Zeroed for coyotes and playing...

Well, thought I would update. Not only is this my first M99, but it is also the absolute worst copper fouled gun I have ever seen! I have been cleaning with Hoppes 3 times a day for a week, it still comes out green! Bore is feeling pretty smooth...

Agreed, it is a bit different looking, could be why I like it. Main thing is it isn’t as nose heavy as other 629s with a full lug and longish barrel.I have not held the stretch hunter, but it appears it would be barrel heavy, kinda like a 6 inch...

I am assuming the “cover” on the barrel rib, just ahead of the frame, is a pad for an optic mount. Is that proprietary or just drilled and tapped for a commercial mount? Might want to put a Reddot on this one,all my other revolvers are open sights....

It looks like the 170181 model, 7 1/2 inch. Thing is it is black chrome, except the cylinder is brushed stainless. At least I am assuming chrome, could be some other type coating, but it is hard, slick, and a bit shiny. Honestly, the blues look is...

I have come across a performance center 629 that seems to call my name. Single action is very nice, DA is really good as well. Gun is black except cylinder, assuming black chrome, it looks nice. 6.5 inch gun with the lil short 2 slot muzzle brake. I...

Yep, same here. Ain’t never going to discourage someone adding to the collective knowledge. I don’t do expansion testing, well other than on critters, but comparative data adds to the knowledge base. Since critters aren’t made of jell, using a known...

Good shooting! I like your setup, free on the stool and but in the chair ,I assume. I think I remember you shoot with the hands between your knees?? That is my preferred position as well, I just wasn’t smart enough to get my tail off the ground. I...

Google up on blue dot in the 223. You can load it down to hornet level and it will be almost as “not quite loud” as a real hornet. I would lose the break, just a loud maker, especially on a 22 centerfire.

That is so true, I find anything with a vertical grip to be very awkward. The closer it feels to a 20 gage M12 the better. Everyone’s background and personal experience comes into play.

From what you describe, I would worry more about the pointability and making an accurate quick shot than caliber. Either of those or the 10mm will work if placed well. Getting a quick shot placed well requires a gun that fits well and points like an...

Interesting thought, would you then have a (roughly speaking) .41cal straightwall case with a belt for headspace, and a standard boltface..Would seem a better solution to the straightwall state requirement. Something to read up on.

I have probably killed at least three dozen deer with .44 mags. Most have been with 240 JHP's but quite a few with Keith style hard cast 245 grain. Most of the JHP's were recovered in the deer but the cast bullets exited from ANY angle fired. I...

Ghosthawk, that is the first generation 81 (no letter, kinda like no dash S&W world). On the right front trigger guard is a square with 2 letters, that is the proof date. AH is 1981, common for all Italy proofed guns. Mine was very nice for the...
