This buy is now closed

To sign up for one of these excellent molds, PM me your email address and zip code. I will post your zip code here.

This buy will run till our turn comes up with Mihec. When it does, the buy will be closed and Mihec will send out invoices via paypal to the address you provide me with, so the email you send me should be your paypal address.

Price will be $120 plus $20 shipping for a four cavity brass mold with the Cramer hollowbase system.

A solid version (no cramer system) is available for $85 plus $20 shipping. You must make clear to me that you want the solid version! Make sure I have noted it next to your zip code!

This mold is literally like ten times faster than the old single cavity pin type that Lyman made for 38 caliber and this is in 41. If you have a 41, don’t miss out on this.

Here is a graphic of the mold. Target diameter will be .411 with WW.

Here is a picture of the 38 mold that was run recently.

Kinda makes me wish I'd bought that S&W Model 357PD in .41 Magnum when I had the chance...

Can you flip the pins on the mold to make a solid? How much would it weigh in solid form?

If I could pay with a postal MO I would be interested. Paypal didn't work out so well for me a few years ago.

Only nine so far? And one guy is probably getting two? Come on people! Let's get it together!

Nine, ten now for this mold, but this, the 44, the 45 and the 38 all use the same cherry which is being reused from the original 38 run, so there is no 15 needed. My understanding is that these molds will be made - no minimum required - somewhere in his current run of four cavity molds.

armed_partisan

That's probably the good thing about a typical wadcutter profile is you only need one cherry, and move it off center with an Offset Boring Head to change caliber. Now, why didn't I think of that?

When is this going to run ?

I asked Mihec that question. He says as soon as possible, but he has the brass ordered and they are telling him 5-8 weeks on that. When it comes in he will run all the 4 cavities in one batch. These four hollow base molds and some other group buys are included in that.

We need 5 more folks to sign up for our 20 buy minimum. This should be a great mold and make great boolits for punchin' holes in paper--c'mon--jump on board, you'll be glad you did.

All I know is he closed the buy to order pins. I still am waiting (for some time now) for the PP invoice for the 4C 45 ACP mold that he is working on now. I hope it doesn't take too long.

Mihec has opened this back up and says we can accept orders for another 14 days. That is about when they will go on the machine. So you fence-sitters have a last chance.

OK... I'm really confused here which means I'm probably on too many group buys. Is the group buy for the .41HBWC still open or is it closed? I know I was originally wanting to get in on this one. Am I listed or did I mess up and miss the purchase? At this rate I'm going to have to sew my name inside my shirt. :veryconfu

You are on the list. It did close briefly, then Mihec said to open it back up for a couple weeks till he was ready for it.

Thank you Happy. I was afraid I missed it. I just mentioned to my wife I'm on two more GB's than she knew about and it didn't phase her a bit.... so .... now to look for one more buy to get into. :D

Sew it upside down over your pocket. That way you won't have to ask somebody else to read it.
Don't ask how I know.

Got mine today. It is fantastic. I haven't cast with it yet, but it is absolutely a work of art. It is the best Mihec mold I have had yet in terms of quality right out of the box.

I received my mold a few days ago. I fired up my new RCBS Pro Melt furnace and had at it. I let the mold sit on top of the molten alloy for about 30 seconds and then let it rip.

Prior to casting I lubed the cramer pins thru the mold block with some of the provided lube. One was kinda tight until I pried it apart with a suitable screwdriver.

From the get go it cast perfect boolits with none to thrown back into the pot. This had to be the easiest mold I have ever used. Once I cast about 10 sets of boolits in it I opened the sprue plate and with hot boolits in the mold I commenced to lubing the mold with the supplied lube. A Q Tip swab with a couple of drops of lube applied to the alignment pins, top of mold, underside of sprue plate and hinge screw and I was good to go.

I emptied that 22 lb of alloy in less than 30 minutes and refilled it twice during a session of about 2 hours. When I got done I could not begin to pick up the water bucket with the boolits. I had to scoop out handsfull of the castings one at a time and dump them into the bathroom sink for draining and go back for more.

I have no idea of how many boolits I did cast.........however it appears to be about 1 1/2 gallons of boolits and I went thru 60+ lbs. of alloy.

Fantastic mold....very easy to use....I made good use of the mold guide on the furnace as this is a heavy mold to hold. Very fast. I opened up the flow on the furnace so I could fill those cavities fast and pool a nice sprue on top. When the last cavity had sucked down the final dimple and the alloy changed color/surface configuration I immediately opened the sprue with a hickory hammer handle and then inverted the mold over my bucket of water and tapped the end of the cramer pins....one two three four...and four perfect boolits hissed into the water....then I tapped the cramer pins back into place gently and closed the mold carefully and double checked after I closed the sprue plate and I was ready to go again.

I easily was able to get three complete casting operations done each minute and thereby I was able to generate 12 boolits a minute without breaking a sweat. With a great mold like this and a decent bottom pour casting furnace I should have been able to make 720 boolits an hour. However a more sedate number of about 400-500 is what I ended up with.

The mold never seemed to overheat and try as I might I could not get soft boolits out of it if I waited until the sprue plate changed over. I kept the temp of the alloy at about 700 degrees and all my boolits are nice and shiny. No frosting at all. Good fill out if I did my part and really overfilled the cavities initially. It was amazing to see how much of the sprue puddle was drawn down into the mold whilst it was molten. Every cavity had a pronounced dimple in the middle of the sprue plate as the contents cooled.

Any problem boolits were my fault as sometimes I did not put enuf alloy into the cavity and pile up a good sprue pool. A thin spue pool did not cut it. That brass mold is perfectly made and holds the temperatures perfectly and make gorgeous boolits but it is kinda heavy.

Over the entire casting session if I had 20 rejects that was a lot. Outstanding quality and performance from this mold. Best yet Miha. Thanks for a great job.
