I'm considering buying a freedom arms in this caliber and want to know what some good molds to start looking for are? At first I don't want to try a full power load but perhaps a 300 somthing grain at 1000-1100 fps? should be good for deer and black bear while allowing a recoil level safe enough to practice alot with.
What do you guys think?

I think you should buy a BFR! The Freedom is a pretty gun but you will have less recoil, longer cylinder, shoot heavier boolits and get better accuracy with the BFR. Don't wimp out with the gun, shoot good loads. The Freedom is at home with 350 to 365 gr boolits. Most 400's and up will not fit. The twist is wrong for heavy boolits too at 1 in 18. The BFR is 1 in 15 and will handle 400 gr to as heavy as you want to go.
The picture on the left is my .475 with a typical 50 yd group. I have put 5 shots in 5/8" with it.

I'm with 44. You can buy 2 or 3 bfr's for one freedom arms. If all you want is a 300 at 1100 why not get a 454 or even a 44? 454 can handle up to 400 grains.

Your better off in a 475 if your looking for light loads to load a 375-400 grain bullet light then to use a 300 grain bullet. The 300s just dont have enough sectional density to penetrate well.

I mistyped in my last post I meant to type 400grainer since I believe one of these should work fine at 950-1000 ft on deer and black bear. The other reason I want a 475 is my dream trip to alaska. I really want to be able to spice that 400 grain bullet up for big bear and moose.

The Lee 476-400 RF is super accurate! Use 15 gr's of HS-6 for a pleasant load and 26.5 gr's of 296 for an A** kicker. This boolit holds under 1" at 50 yd's from the BFR but not very good in the Freedom.

BFR is the way to go. I've got an NEI mould for mine as well as an LBT and a Ballisti Cast. The heavy bullets are great and HS-6 load listed by .44 man with any 400 grain bullet I use will shoot lengthwise through a Kansas whitetail.

Lee has a decent 400 gr mould,I use WC680 Powder for lighter loads. This is surplus powder at $ 64 per 8 LB jug
27.0gr of AA1680/WC680 will get you 1100 fps w/7.5 "barrel.

like was said that 14-15 grain loading of hs6 is a real good one and the lee bullet is a good one. To bad they wont cut it in 6 cavity so it will last a while. Another real good resonalbly priced mold is the rcbs swc 400 grain but the drawback to that one is its single cavity and slow to cast with.

:-D I have been playing with a Freedom arms 475 Linebaugh 6 in.barrel for the last 3 years, it is a iron site gun that I carry in a Milt Sparks 200AW on my hip when hunting its not a long barrel scope sighted hand gun . its very accrate and powerful almost to much of a good thing! I have a few molds from Ballisti-cast a 375gr LFNGC style a 410grGC LFN and a 440gr LFNPB . they all fit in the cylinder . Billy G. turned me on to HS6, and Lee J. told me to try it behind the 440 LFN . its my most used load, so far,I have only shot one black bear with it . I have not tryed the LEE 400gr bullet .all the bullets that I have tryed will shoot alot better than I can hold . if your going to buy a 475 from Freedom arms make sure to get the extra 480 cylinder and the triger job. and you might as well load up some big heavy loads just so when you shoot it you will know that the gun can take alot more than your hands and wrist can! then load some with 15 grs HS6 and you will be very happy:Fire: best regards. I went to order the gun today and wound up buying a single action ruger instead with the Bisley frame I'm goanna sent to Linebaugh or his sun and have a true 475 made. I use HS6 in my .45 A.C.P. so I'll have to start loading some test loads while i wait for my gun to get converted.

Don't overlook the 480 Ruger SRH if your only looking for 1,000 to 1,100 fps with a 400 gr. bullet. I have a very slow 9 1/2" barreled 480 that will clock 1,250 fps with my Mnt. Molds 400 gr. Pressure is kept below 48kpsi and brass will last forever. I never have to trim mine.

I also use a Lee 476-325 GC mold for plinker bullets and a planned whitetail load. Cast from 50/50 WW-PB and dropped AC'd, they have very positive expansion at full power 1,400+ fps loads. In jacketed I've only tried the Speer 275 gr. GDHP. I have a good load at 1,625 fps.
