I am looking for Varget loads for the 300 Whisper for 150 and 180 cast bullets in the 1400-1600 speed range...have two 300 Whispers one 14" barrel and one 24" barrel. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

billy welcome to the forum.

i haven't worked with either the 300 whisper or varget powder.
but as i understand the powder, and it's relative burn rate you can back it down some pretty safely.
i wouldn't go under 60% of the case capacity though.
you're in a touchy spot though a bit slow on the velocity for the slow powder and a bit heavy on boolit weight for the case size for a slow handgun powder.

i'd work up the loads right from the start with a filler with the varget though.

be careful and good luck.

I shoot the 300 Whisper. I do not use any powder slower than WC680. this is with the 314299 sized to .310".
W296 is for full power loads with the 125gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips.

I also have used BlueDot, Unique, and AA#2.
I have not heard of anyone using Varget in this cartridge as the capacity is very small. Not saying it can't be done.

Thank you Gentlemen for you feed back on the Varget...I really like this powder and have plenty so wanted to at least see if there was some data out there. Good article in the 2010 Hodgdon Reloading manual on Varget's versatility will do more reading and check. I did see a post under Supersonic Lee 200gr. Load Date for the 300 Whisper and a Nobade showed a load for Varget at 18.0 Gr., 26SKI, 1300 FPS...Thought that I could start with that 18 gr. with the 180 gr. Saeco 307 and see what develops...with the small case believe 18 gr. will fill it pretty well...

Been shooting cast boolits in my Marlin 30-30 and sure love them with Varget for Silhouette Shooting and love the results.

Thank you again for your input and welcome...

Anyone have any experience with the 200gr RCBS GC in the 300 Whisper?

That powder is too slow for much joy, I've reloaded lots for the .300 Whisper and the slowest powder that worked good for me was/is Reloder 7.

Varget not gonna work. Save it for something else. Can't get enough in the case for any usable velocity.

I would try it for kicks. Hogdon would/could not give me a load for the 7 BR and 7 R. I worked with it and it gives me 1/2" groups at 50 and the 120 SSP bullet, BR is trucking along at 2175 fps.
Both are 10" barrels. Who would think?
