Besides the molds. does anyone know about tools to form hollowpoints in cast pistol rounds?

Jim has designed some tools for doing HP's.

here is a thread

I like that.

I had an idea, If you put a deburring tool, (the kind that come to a point), in the hole on a bullet sizing die, and made something to center the bullet on the ram, then you could press the point into the bullet.

Jim's rigs work well. I have them for 44s and 357s. Good guy to trade with too.

Chances are better than good you'd deform your boolit.

Forester makes a HP tool for their trimmer if Jim has shut down production.

+1 on the Forster HP tool. I've been using the 1/8" tool for many years on numerous bullets of .30 - 45 cal with complete satisfaction. Of course a proper alloy is essential and is controlling the depth of the HP for proper expansion at impact velocities. The Forster HP tool allows complete control of the depth of the HP. I have HP'd lots of .357, .41 and .44 magnums with complete success, especially with GC'd bullets at true magnum velocities. I have also cast 358156 and 358477s of almost pure lead and HP'd them with the Forster. In the .38 special at +P velocity they equal the vaunted "FBI" 150 lead SCWHP in expansion and terminal performance. Attached photo shows some .30 Carbine and .35 Remingtons that have been HP'd with the Forster tool.

i use a swaging tool to put a hollow point in many of my 44's. i also use it to reform the nose on some and it does help make them more uniform.
yep pour size/lube then swage.
i can also remove the crimp groove and put a canellure on them for picky leverguns that need a particular oal.

Someone here came up with the idea of using a cut down piece of brass as a guide and drill a hole in the boolit through the primer hole to make hollow points.

i have the forester hollow pointer as well. for me, it does exactly what it is intended to do. hollow point bullets. i have even hollow pointed a few fmj bullets with it. but they do not do much. i think you would have to at least score, if not cut the jacket to make that work. i do like

the idea though.
