What is #1 The oldest gun you have [U]ever[U] hunted with and #2 The oldest gun you regularly hunt with.(replicas don't count)

I think the guys that cast often use very traditional guns and not the latest whiz-bang.

#1 For me the oldest gun ever hunted with is a 1842 .69 Harpers Ferry musket. Inherited heirloom and every couple of years I'll shoot some starlings or blackbirds for pie, just to keep her in shape. NO not with minnies or RB but with #8 shot.

#2 Oldest gun I regularly hunt with is granddads Winchester 1911 #12 ga. It was first semi auto shotgun, J.M. Browning patent, precourser of Remington 11 and Browning A5. Mfg from 1911 to 1924 and this one has a 32K serial out of 100K+ made.

What you guys carring out there?
Good luck huntin! 10 ga

Have a Fox Sterlingworth 12 ga SxS serial number puts it at 1913, belonged to my grandfather he shot a lot of birds with it and I've used it with much sucess, little slow for quail but deadly for pheasants. I'd use it tomorrow if needed.
I have shoot some trap with it.

As a kid I hunted with a 14 Ga. English SB shotgun from about 1850.
I still use rolling blocks from the last quarter of the 19th century.

I had at one time, an original flintlock, probably from the 1840-s era. Completely hand made. Forged and hand rifled barrel, home made lock. Very accurate, but has a soft frizzen. Some squirrels were patient enough to let me drop the hammer a half dozen times, to get it to fire.

Oldest would be an 1893 Remington outside hammer double in Twelve gauge . It still goes out from time to time .

Oldest I still use is a Kimber model eighty-four that I use to eliminate chucks and feral critters of the 'hood .

Oldest is a Winchester Model 94 rifle in 30-30 made in 1927. My regular hunting gun is a Savage 99 in .308 with a scope (age is dimming my eyesight). What can I say, I like lever guns.

Savage 99 of unknown date (mid 50's?), Marlin 36 and 36A from 1946, and a couple Marlin1893s in nice shape and remain tack drivers. All are .30 cal., use Ranch Dog, Lyman, Seaco, and RCBS 160 through 180 grains, heat treated, checked and lubed through a .312 sizer, pushed at about 1900 fps ahead of reloader 7.

I have used a 45/70 Trap door on deer several times

Not sure of the age
But I try to hunt ducks with my Great Great Grandfathers SxS 10 gau cap lock shotgun

Have to be sure and only cock 1 hammer
As it has a nasty habit of dropping the second hammer
From the recoil from the first shot

Sort of takes all the fun out of hunting with a Black and Blue shoulder

An old side by side 12 g. marked G.O.Werthington, and the date on it was in the early 1920's I think. It was an improved and modified, and the darn thing would throw one ounce slugs at 50 yds to within 3" of each other consistantly, as if the bbls. were regulated. Sold it to a Tiawaneese, in the early 60's, and the next time I saw it, it had a big 3" brand on the stock where it had been registered and taxed. Think about that if you have a number of firearms.

Rifle: win 94,26"round 30/30,full length mag.tube, serial 25xxx...---------& Shotgun : another of those Win.auto 1911's ....both of these passed to me from maternal G'dad..use is primarily to refresh old memories..also Have Dad's 30 /40 Krag, which could be older but it has been extensively altered and is primarily a range peice nowadays.there is also on hand a Remington-Lee 30/40,but I've not attempted to find DOM,another extensivly altered("sporterized") rifle and a fine boolit thrower

Youall have got me beat on the age of rifles I've hunted with, but I thought I'd still post mine. The oldest I've ever hunted with is a 1942 Turk 38 Mauser in 8mm. I oughta try my Swiss 1911, it was made in 1918.

Oldest gun I shoot was a early 1800's .40 cal flintlock my high school art teacher had.

Oldest gun that I hunt with is a 1899 Winchester 92 in 32w.c.f. I use to squirrel hunt with all the time or around the farm for unwanted feed robbers.

He bought it new when it first came out.

This year I used my Grandpas 1903 Springfield thats been sporterized. He died when I was about 4, so this gun aint killed anything in about 36 years.

I loaded her up with cast 180gr FN 50/50 boolits and killed a nice doe at about 120 yards. Its been a while since I shot an animal with open sites, but its fun. My first cst boolit kill, but I dont think I'll ever go back to condom bullets again. Whats the point?

I dont have a second oldest gun yet cause everything else was all shot with jacketed and I'm trying to forget that time of my life.

#1 - Oldest gun I ever hunted with: (many, many, many years ago,) an 1891 Argentine Mauser 7.65x53 - not exactly the best choice for East Texas Piney Woods (was like trying to carry a canoe through the woods), but it was all I had at the time.

#2 - Big age difference in what I hunt with now. My 'go-to' guns are: a Marlin 336C in 30-30, bought in 1980 for hunting in heavy brush. For open fields / longer range hunting I reach for my 1997 Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 Springfield.

This is one cool thread.

I agree. I sit here reading all these posts and can see all the members enjoying fond memories of treasures handed down over the years. Makes me a bit envious - my grand-dad was gone before I was a twinkle in my daddy's eye, and the only two firearms my dad ever owned (a snub-nosed .38 and a Luger P-08) were stolen in a home burglary when I was very young. Hoping to change all that with my sons though. Thanks for sharing.

A first year of production S&W Model of 1899 Military and Police, .38 Special. It does a right nice job on vermin and small game on those days that the lighting is good and I can actually SEE those microscopic fine sights.

A model 99 300 savage born in 1932. It was not born a 300 though, I have always assumed it started life as a 30/30, but it has been x'd out. This has the cartridge counter, I always thought it would be real interested if there was a game counter instead.

I have a newer rifle. A win 94 30/30 made in 53, but usually just use it for plinking.

Exact same as Larry: Model 1884 TD 45-70 made in '86. Shot at a fox; missed by a mile; went home feeling like an idiot; never shot that thing again at anything living.

Went deer hunting several years in a row with a 760 pump; 300 savage; 30-06. Didn't see anything at all during those times. Never went hunting for anything since high school (1959) because of complete lack of interest.

Now speaking about birds. That is a different story. Rifle shots in spoofing territory, and wondered how and
why I missed. That is when Bench Rest stuff became my thing. Oh, I did find out why over a four year period, and that's when my inability to read conditions became evident. Factual, even today. I need at least one sighter round. ... felix

Oldest gun I have hunted with is a 24 ga Belgium double barrel percussion gun. Don't know the exact age but I would guess it was made in the mid-to-late 1800's. I still try to take it grouse hunting once each year.
My grandfather's 12 ga hammer double is still used regularly each year. He bought it used in a St.Louis pawn shop in 1911. Here's a picture of the two guns.

I have the barrels from my Great Grandfathers shot gun, they are 11 gauge Belgin barrels. I found a Manton that had been refinished and cut down for cow boy shooting, The barrels were fitted to the gun and I have taken small game with it. Also a 16 ga. Belgin with 42 inch barrels, and the 10 ga. James and son English double.

My Great Grandfather loved to eat wild meat and I have heard the story of him loading the gun with sand and shooting sparrows in the garden to eat, one time not seeing his prized rooster behind the bush and killing it to.

Im still hunting my great grandfather's old remington SxS 12 damascus. It has no ejectors, you have to wear a "ring" with a hook on it and when you break the weapon open, the top is cut out to allow the "ring" to hook the shell and extract it. No serial number, no model number. We load special BP rounds in brass hulls for it using #4 shot. Da#$ thing is so tightly patterned though.

It was a 1893 7X57 Mauser I got from someone who didn't know what he had... Or maybe he thought he did. I worked on it a little and it now just about drives tacks. I now have to load with some cast boolits
