I had ordered some die parts and backordered the Cast bullets handbook, directly from Lyman about 4 weeks ago.
My copy was delivered USPS this am. Haven't had a chance to do a look over, but will tomarrow, and report on its content vs ed 1+2.

No, you must be jesting! Really? 4th edition? This critter has become like the Yeti, much talked about but almost never seen. Please let us know more when you get a chance to look it over. Do you not have a 3rd edition to compare? I'm not sure I've ever seen a first edition.

Well,

I guess I can put one on order then since its actually appearing in people's mailboxes now.

I hope they've updated the load data for new powders and new molds...

Got mine Saturday from gunstop.com, still reading.... But noticed they includes some load data for Lee, RCBS, and Seaco molds as well as Lyman.

Cool. Any pressures? Or just velocities?

Some pressures, not all.

Mid-South called Mon. to see if I still wanted the back ordered manual since APRIL!! I replied I still do and was told it would go out that day, cost with shipping was $22 and some change.Robert

Got mine today, most popular cartridges were developed in PSI on a Universal Receiver, there's a few old CUP pressures, and some oddball cartridges, especially handgun, still don't have listed pressures.

It is nice to see velocities up to 2,500 and pressures up to 58K (not a lot, but some). I think that was a Unique load. It is also nice to see some other mold manufacturers in there, not a lot, but a few RCBS, Saeco, and Lee.

At first blush, I am pleased, I'm sure I'll find something to gripe about though.

This sounds like an item worth getting. The Evil Daughters are hinting around about 'what Dad wants for Christmas', this might be something they can afford on college student budgets.

The inside cover of my Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook has copyright 1973. Would that be the 3rd edition? The price sticker on the front says $4.64!

yes , the cover is brown ? the third is and the fourth is blue , FWIW my original copy of the 3rd was the best ( and sadly worn out ), i have two others and the last printing some of the pages were very very lite

fryboy,
Yeah, the cover is brown. The background looks like lumber. Perhaps I'll get the 4th edition before I wear this one out.
Thanks,
Tony

Just ordered one for me from Amazon. My local gun stores (2 of 'em) don't carry any casting or reloading stuff...

Remember, Lyman got the supply only about ten days ago, and they're working their way through the orders. Not every one can be shipped first or all at once. I don't know if they work by a first in first out, or if they deal with the largest orders first or what - but there has to be a period of time involved. Besides, trucks aren't supersonic! And the holiday doesn't help much, either.

We waited 30 years; a few more days isn't gonna kill us. I'm being patient. (And I have a deadline to meet for the review, too!)

Midsouth shooters supply shipped my copy of the 4th. Of course I started with a $16 book and ended up with a $104 order.

I got mine from Graf's today. I'm kind of disappointed that there is no data for the .357 Maximum, but overall it looks like a good book. I haven't had a chance to look at it much yet since I just came in from the woods (another unsuccessful outing) when it got dark.

We really need a Cast Boolits Handbook with data for all the popular group buy moulds. I imagine that would be quite the undertaking however.

The way it looks only Lyman molds of current manufacture were inculded in the load data. If your looking for data for a old Lyman mold you'll have to have the third edition.
