I was on the BPCR.net forum and saw someone mention a lube ring. Is that what is on the mouth of the cartridge after it's extracted from the chamber? If so is it good to have one? Or does that indicate a problem such as the brass is a hair too short?

A lube ring (if present) is found on the muzzle of the rifle. Basically, it is a coating of the steel with lube thrown off of the bullet as it exits.
The presence of a lube ring is taken to indicate that your bullet carries enough lube to last for the entire trip through the bore.

Thanks Charlie. I was guessing on the wrong end of the barrel.
