I did pay a few bucks more for a box of Large Rifle Primers the other day. I think it was $5 more then a box of Small Pistol. Having said that, I spent $25 for the LRP, and $19 for the SPP...

I had a weird experience at a Gander store, not my first such experience. I grabbed a box of Hornady bullets, which I had to have for upcoming hunt. The price on the shelf was $29.95. The kid at the counter rang them up and charged me $35. I had a couple of other small items, so didn't do the math, but looked at the ticket. Even though there was a line, I said something about it. The kid asked what they were on the shelf, I told him, and he just said "ok" and gave me back the difference. I thought that was odd. You would think they would have to actually send a worker to the display to verify it.

Primers here ( NW Orygun) are about $3.59/100 , doesn't seem to matter what size.
Just be dang lucky you found some on the shelf !!!
It's only been since late summer that we have had primers and powder at all, just a trickle since the election....
Powder is up too, I think our powder is around $25.00 average /bottle no matter how much is in the bottle, 12oz or 16oz, all the same..... "P J"

Had same deal last time I bought from them also. Was box of pistol bullets, the box had $19.99 sticker on them, below them the tag read $24.99, they ran up $29.99. I told the nice kid that the price needes to reflect the sticker on the box. So I got them for $19.99 but the sad thing is how many people don't catch this mistake and do get screwed.

Try NZ$70.00 per 1000, that equates to $54.00US for Federal Small Rifle and thats about $NZ5 to $NZ8 dollars off normal cost. Just topped up my stocks this afternoon. When do we start making our own primers??

Winchester LRP are $1.00 per 1000 more than CCI, Rem, Fed for whatever reason where I buy primers. The dealer says he has to pay $1.00 more for them and has to pass along the differance.

An interesting side note, I went in to buy some SPP and he said he was out, except for some Fiochi, (spelling?) and they were $34.00. Looking at the box it was discovered it contained 1,500 primers rather than the normal 1,000. I bought them.

I totally ignore the one in Harrisburg, there's nothing there in there I need that bad for the price. They can close the store for all I care.

Are you sure they were regular primers and not "benchrest"?

..............Dang dude! :-) Don't they make primers in Australia? I know they make powder there. I know they'd have to ship over water to NZ but it's lots closer then from the U.S. I imagine the components crunch must have really hurt after Obongo's election.

In Oz you'll pay about $45 AUD/1000 for Federal SPP. I paid that a month or so ago for them. I bought 10,000. They go up and down a bit, but usually around low to mid $40's.

If I buy Winchester WST by the pound its $50 - $55. I was lucky enough a few months ago to get a 4 pounder for $170.

Gun store 10 miles from me always had primers in stock during the 'shortage', but they charge $40. Now that prices have dropped, they still haven't lowered the cost. Luckily I found another store 30 miles away that sells for $28.

Thanks for the "welcomes" fella's. I've only just got into casting and I really enjoy it! Any excuse to get into the shed for a couple of hours and have a beer or two....

Yeah, it is a bit frustrating that we pay through the nose for most things........ but at the moment I'm just glad that we can still shoot. Here in Victoria we can't shoot anything bigger than .38/9mm.
