He cheated a bit and used a Jacketed bullet, but I am proud of him none the less.

Very cool morning at 35 degrees. My oldest son (15) sat up on a ridge with his mother. He chose to take his browning A-bolt in 7-08 this morning as shots can be long from this position. MAde a 75 yard shot on a running rutting buck about 7:30 this morning. Me and the youngest son sitting about 3/4 mile away and heard the bullet smack before the rifle report.

He passed up 6 other bucks before adding this one to his "Bone Collection".

Me and the youngest passed a single 2 year old 8 point this morning. Were allowed 2 bucks and 3 doe this year. Headed back out in a few.

The young man field dressed , skinned and quartered this buck by himself.

A darn fine start to a good day. His next deer, he plans on using a 44 SBH and hardcast.

Well you have a right to be proud of your son Dad. YOU did a fine job in raising and teaching him ot be independent! I just wish my son would hunt with me.

So where is this that you hunt that there is such generous bag limits if you don't mind saying?

chaos,
Congratulations to your son and you.
I have been taking my kids(6 & 10 yrs. old) hunting w/ me since they turned 5yrs. old.
After we give thanks to God for the animal, I tell them that they have helped feed our family.
You can see them swell up w/ pride. I am not rushing them to be the shooter but I can't wait until they are ready to harvest their first big game animal.
You must be very proud and deservedly so.

I'm sure you're justly proud. Fine looking young you have there, and a credit to his parenting obviously.

Thanks fellas,

I am very proud of both of my sons. They both have been taking deer since they could hold up a rifle.

Me and the youngest struck out tonight. Going to lay off them for a week is the plan.

Old Goat Keeper: We are in West Texas. In Texas the whitetail deer limits are set up by County. We are in a 5 deer county, maximum of 2 buck. A man can take 5 doe if he wants.

South Texas has some counties which are 5 deer, with a 3 buck limit.

Both of my kiddos generally take one buck a piece and then fill the freezer with doe.
