I chronographed 3 loads in my 50/95 with 22" barrel. Got he following data.
Lyman bullet #515139, weight 355 grs., shot as cast.
35.5 grs.Rx7= 1438 fps.
36.0 grs. Rx7=1519 fps.
36.5 grs Rx7= 1463 fps.
Fired each group twice due to third load dropping off in fps. Also groups with the third load were twice the size of the others, i.e. 4" vs. 2.250" for others.

Good morning
I never tried RX7 in my 50-70 īs ... I just stuck with 2400, Unique and 5744 some.
Sounds like the boollit base is failing and the gases are blowing by ??? Do you have any recovered boolits to gander at ?

I checked a couple of boolits I found in the berm. Things seemed normal, how ever there was some leading at in the bore. I guess I'll try vn133 or 3031. I have been using Winchester Grex.
More reasons to go to the range:grin:

Good morning
Well keep the info coming... 50īs are a facinating caliber... big holes and lots of wallop on target.
The leading at the muzzle is lack of lube. You can try smearing a bit of lube on the nose before loading to be sure. Also a slower powder will be kinder to the boolit base and fill the case better.
Which brand is this lever rifle ?

Chaparral, 22" barrel. I'm going to try 3031, 4895, and 748 powders next.
