I've got about 30 to 40 pounds of sheet lead that is about 18 inches wide and has some kind of paper/cardboard coating that is about half gone. What I was told, it is some kind of construction lead, possably used under tile in shower stalls. What kind of alloy is this? is it pure lead?

Sounds like either X-ray room shielding or cable sheathing. I'd say the former.

In either case, I'd venture to to say you have almost pure lead./beagle

In working on the construction of several hospitals, I have seen a lot of lead sheathed gypsum board, your description sounds very much like the sheathing after it has been peeled off the gypsum board, what I have seen is very soft.

I just bought some sheet that I know was X-ray shielding. Is about 3/32" thick, and so soft that if you grip a foot-square piece by one end it will sag markedly. Had a vinyl facing glued to it that was a cast-iron female dog to peel off. The CB crowd here tells me it's most probably pure lead.
